From the Principal’s Pen

Dear Laurel Hill Families,

If you have a graduating high school senior that attended Laurel Hill, please let them know the Senior Walk Thru is Wednesday, June 5th at 1:30pm. Feel free to wear your cap and gown or future college shirt. Congratulations SCHS seniors!

We are looking forward to our end of the year Carnival on Saturday!  Please join us anytime between 12 and 4 pm for fun on bounce houses, face paintings, a dunk tank with teacher volunteers and food.  Please be mindful that parent supervision is required at this large event.  We also hope to see you at the Strings concert tonight at SCMS at 7pm and the talent show next Wednesday, June 5 at 6 pm. So many fun events to wrap up a great school year!

Sincerely,

Janice Dalton, Principal

LHES News:

📝 Student Testing Results Coming Soon

Later this month, you will begin receiving your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, view this list of tests by grade level on FCPS’ website.  SOL scores are expected in PVUE the week of 6/3.

How the results are delivered depends on the test. Scores will be posted in SIS ParentVUE, or sent by mail or from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines

Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about student assessments, including what each assessment is testing for and how to interpret the test results. Caregivers should contact their children’s teacher with any testing questions.

Learn how to understand your student’s grade 3-8 SOL results and find resources to support their ongoing learning.

Lost & Found

Our lost and found is overflowing! Racks are set out at dismissal. Please check and claim any of your student's clothes and water bottles. We will have a table at the June 1st Carnival with everything displayed. Any clothing left over will be donated.

Medication Pick Up

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the Laurel Hill Elementary School health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that prescription medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. If your student is attending a summer program with FCPS, the current medication authorizations may be used for those programs (parent/guardian must pick up from LHES health room and then deliver the forms and medication to summer site).

Parent input for next year class placement

Many families value having a role in their child’s class placement. Parents and caregivers have the best overall knowledge of your child and her/his unique traits. The class placement process is approached very carefully and thoroughly at Laurel Hill ES and we consider the academic and social needs of each student. In order to provide the best environment for your child, we seek input from both staff and families.  Please fill out this form to provide your input.  We do not take requests for specific teachers, rather for the type of teacher that may be a good fit for your child.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA) board for 24-25 school year

The Laurel Hill ES PTA is accepting nominations to serve the 2024-25 school year. Positions available are President; Vice President, Programs; Vice President, Fundraising; Treasurer; and Secretary. Each position may serve up to a two-year term. PTA Board members are responsible for the overall management and leadership of the educational and social programming that support Laurel Hill students, teachers, staff and community. This includes events like Screen on the Green, International Night, the Fun Run, Carnival, Teacher Appreciation Week and Kindergarten Playground and Popsicles. Self-nominations are encouraged. To self-nominate, please fill out the Nomination Form and submit to lhespta@gmail.com by Tuesday, May 28. Know someone who would make a great Board member? Nominate them to serve on the Board. Please share the person’s name and contact info with Teresa Smith (tsmith2@fcps.edu), LHES Family Liaison. Elections will take place at the PTA general body meeting on June 4 at 7pm in the LHES Library. Nominations from the floor also will be accepted, if necessary.

🥗 Don’t Forget to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance!

It’s a busy time of year, and we know there are many priorities on families’ plates. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to remember to check your students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Families that earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2024-25 school year will be available this summer.

If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2022-23 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price lunch.

Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success. Caregivers can view important information in ParentVUE such as attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. A SIS ParentVUE app is available for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVUE account? This video explains the steps. Find out more. To create a new account, please contact [school registrar’s name and email] for an activation letter.

If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up-to-date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. View more information.
