class

8th Grade Class Fee  - $5 due 6/1/24 Paid through MySchool Bucks

At the end of each school year Liberty Middle School likes to celebrate the graduation of our 8th graders from middle school to high school with a fun day of activities and food.  This year’s event will occur on Tuesday, June 11th.  To help support the purchase of food and supplies for the BBQ lunch, we are asking all 8th graders to pay a $5 class fee.  Payment of this fee can be made through MySchool Bucks in the Liberty School Store.   Please make this payment by June 1st.   If you need assistance covering this expense, please reach out to your child’s counselor by email.  All remaining funds after expenses will stay with the SCA to help support student activities and expenses.

8th Grade Parents:  Signature required for Academic & Career Plan

Your child is continuing to develop an Academic and Career Plan (ACP) that supports their current work as well as helps them plan for the future.  Your child will work with teachers and school counselors to discover their personal strengths and interests.  They will also create goals to help them achieve success, plan for courses that meet high school graduation requirements, and prepare for life after high school.  The development of the ACP starts in middle school and is updated regularly through high school as each student’s academic, personal, and career goals evolve.

Liberty counselors met with 8th grade students during the month of May through Civics classes to assist them in reviewing the requirements for graduation and mapping out their required courses and electives through 12th grade.

You or your child can log into Naviance Student at www.fcps.edu/Naviance. Naviance supports more than 70 languages which parents can access from the icon of a globe in the top right corner of the website.  Once in your child’s account, click on their initials in the top right corner.  Select “Portfolio”.  Once you click on the Portfolio, you can review the DRAFT course plan for high school.

**The Virginia Department of Education requires that the student’s parent or guardian review this plan. Once you have reviewed your child’s plan, complete the verification form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe9Q8TMSduQjs6TsrwnegX4TOaXqxYFanMCeiQg9eqy5MwlJQ/viewform. The completion of this form will serve as your signature.  This must be completed by Friday, May 31, 2024.

For more information, visit www.fcps.edu and search “Academic and Career Plan”. We encourage you to continue to use Naviance Student with your child to explore college and career options. If you have further questions, please contact your child’s school counselor.

Executive Board Nominations and Elections

The PTA needs you! There are board positions available for next year. We still need a treasurer and secretary.

The PTA cannot function without Board members – we need your help to continue to support the Liberty Lion community!

At a minimum, per the National PTA bylaws, our PTA board must have at least a President, Secretary, and Treasurer. If not then there will not be a PTA for Liberty next year. We need your help!

No previous experience needed. Training and support are provided. Only requirement is you must have a current Liberty PTA membership.

Electronic voting ballots will be going out soon. New board will be announced at the June PTA meeting.

Athletic Physicals for MS Sports

Athletic physicals are required for middle and high school student-athletes.  Beginning May 1, 2024, FCPS high schools will offer athletic pre-participation physical exams for students interested in middle school sports during the 2024-25 school year.   These events serve as the primary fundraiser for our high school athletic training programs and each exam costs $50.  Rising middle school students are eligible to receive a physical at no cost although donations to the HS athletic training program are welcomed.

Pre-registration is highly encouraged; walk-in appointments may not be available.  You can register here: Student registration.  Once your registration is received, the school’s athletic trainer will contact you to confirm your appointment time.  Athletic physical exams must be completed on this form: FCPS Middle School Sports Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physical Examination Form (PPE).

If you are a medical professional (MD, DO, NP, PA, ATC, PT, EMT, etc.) interested in volunteering your time in support of these events, please register to help out: Volunteer registration.

Attendance FYI:

As students transition to middle school, one aspect that can sometimes be confusing is that each period has its own attendance. If a student arrives to school after 1st Period, their attendance will show an absence from all class periods they missed entirely and a tardy to the period they arrived during. They will not receive an all-day absence unless they were absent from all class periods.

To avoid receiving an automated attendance call, please submit the Attendance Form, or call our 24/7 attendance line at 703-988-8181 to report your student’s absence, late arrival, or early dismissal before 8:00 a.m. (i.e. before the end of 1st Period).
