Principal Message

Dear Terraset Families,

What a great week at Terraset! We’re incredibly excited to share some fantastic news with you from our school community.

STUFF THE BUS

Our South Lakes Pyramid Schools pride was strong this week as we OVER-FILLED the bus again this year with items for the SLHS food pantry. Huge thanks to our Tigers for supporting our Reston community!

ATTENDANCE ON THE RISE!

We’re thrilled to share our significant improvement in student attendance! Because of your commitment to getting your children to school each day, our chronic absenteeism rate has dropped from 22.28% to 7.90%! NICELY DONE, Tiger Families! Let’s continue to get that rate down even lower next year, as we know that regular attendance is critical for student success. We appreciate your strong support and dedication to your children’s learning journeys.

SOIL MOVE

Much progress has been made in moving our soil to our rooftop garden beds! Staff and volunteers worked together to move an entire parking space full of soil last week and was back at it this morning! We appreciate everyone who lent a helping hand for this important project.

Warmly,

Katie Aldridge, Principal

Dave Ickowski, Assistant Principal

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

“May Day” is an emergency procedure word used internationally as a distress signal in voice-procedure radio communications. The new 9-8-8 number is a suicide and crisis lifeline, similar to 9-1-1 in a medical/safety emergency. One in six youth, aged 6-17, experience a mental health condition each year. Below are some activities to practice at home for mental wellness.

6 Mental Health Activities for Kids to Practice at Home

  • Create a Journal
    • Younger students are better able to communicate their feelings and emotions freely in a creative way.
  • Practice Gratitude Exercises
    • Have students write notes about what they are grateful for and place it a jar (label it thankful jar)
  • Engage in breathing exercises
    • A couple deep breaths can reset not only your child’s mind
    • Deep breathing exercises and meditation can increase focus and compassion
  • Try music therapy
    • Music can be used to encourage movement and relaxation
  • Use Stress Balls and other sensory toys
