Athletic Booster Information

CALL FOR CANDIDATES

Please consider the following...

  • Only some of the expenses required to run a high school athletic program are provided by the school system, so these athletic programs depend heavily on booster organizations to raise funds for their remaining needs.  The many volunteers of the Justice Athletic Boosters work throughout the year to raise much-needed funds.  We aim to donate at least $20,000 per year to the Justice Athletic Program, so that Mr. Garvey and his staff can direct the funds to address the greatest needs of individual teams and the program overall.
  • On Tuesday, June 4 at 6:30pm, the Boosters will hold its final meeting of the year.  The meeting link will be on the Boosters webpage, and on the Activities Office Link Tree.  We need to elect the 4 officers who will lead the organization next year.  Those officers will work with many volunteers so that the goals of the organization can be met without over-burdening anyone.  Here's the good news:
  • We have very experienced volunteers ready to serve as Treasurer and Secretary next year.  That means our financial affairs, record-keeping, and technology (electronic payment system, Google workspace, etc) will be in exceptionally good hands.
  • We enjoy a very supportive relationship with the Activities Office staff, and they are a tremendous resource.
  • Here's the tough part:  As of yet, no one has indicated interest in serving as President or Vice President.  Without volunteers in these positions, the organization cannot continue.  To be blunt:  Our athletic program will suffer significant limitations if the Boosters organization is not there to raise vital funds. Along with the many other things that would be missed (such as the Fall Service Festival), "No Boosters" would mean no concessions, so no hot dogs; hot chocolate; fresh popcorn; hot noodles; drinks/candy/chips; fresh grilled burgers, Walking Tacos and other fun Specials; or warm, fresh-baked cookies.  And a sad loss of the community formed as volunteer teams of parents and students offer hospitality to our many home and away guests.

What do these two positions entail?

  • The President and Vice President positions have some requirements, of course, but mostly the positions are what the volunteers filling the positions make them.
  • If you saw me around school a lot and thought "I don't have time to do that!", then let me assure you that I just happened to have had some extra time over the past few years.  Extra time was not a requirement of the position, it was a personal choice.
  • Please do not judge your ability to fill one of these positions by comparing your availability with the time spent by some officers in the past.
  1. Please consider putting your name forward to be nominated for the position of President or Vice President.  Or think of someone whom you know would be great... and help us nominate them!

Thank you so much, and GO WOLVES!!!!

Justice Rowing Captures Virginia State Championship Medals

Out of six entries at the Virginia State Championships, Justice Rowing placed 4th twice and second three times! Opening the day, our Women’s Junior Double (Ashley Forrest, Gretchen Hardy) overcame a three length deficit with a fabulous finish in the heat to finish third and advance to the afternoon final. Our Men’s Junior Double (Nick Kish, David Caudillo) also finished third in their heat on the strength of hard strokes at a lower rating to advance to the final. Sadly, they were unable to compete in the final. For the afternoon finals, the Women’s Senior Double (Chloé Bernasconi, Ella Stavlund) rowed a furious 37 strokes a minute for the entire race to hold off Hylton by 1.6 seconds to finish 2nd. The Women’s Junior Double just missed out on medaling in the finals, finishing fourth in a very competitive and large field. Our Women’s Senior Quad (Indigo Brookes-Weis, Sabrina Ehmann-Jones, Brooke Ehmann-Jones, Anna Lyons) reversed the results from two weeks ago to beat Western Albemarle by 8.6 seconds and finish second. The Men’s Senior Quad (Stephen Blackadar, Sam Schneider, Tucker Trissell, Charlie Hess) nearly caught Western Albemarle and distanced themselves from Albemarle to finish 2nd. In our last race of the day, the Women’s Junior Quad just missed out on medaling, finishing fourth in a very fast event where all of the top three finishers would have medaled in the Senior Quad.

This week the team travels to the Stotesbury Cup Regatta (the largest high school regatta in the world) where our Women’s Junior Quad, Men’s Junior Double, and Women’s Senior Double will compete against the top crews in the eastern half of the country.

Row Strong!
