Notes from the Nest

In our SEES school community, we S.O.A.R., meaning that we demonstrate: Support, Optimism, Acceptance, and Responsibility.

Dear SEES Community,

What a fantastic week, Eagles! We're buzzing with excitement after a whirlwind of events that showcased our students' talents and fostered a sense of community. Let's dive into the highlights!

SOARing Musicians Take Flight! We're incredibly proud of our 18 musicians who competed in the Fairfax Arts Coalition for Education (FACE) solo competition. A big shout-out goes to 6th grader Brendan Packard who not only became a finalist but also went on to win the entire Junior Artist category! Our thanks also go out to Mr. Smith and Mr. Jakes for their dedication in leading our Band and Strings programs. Remember, Eagles always SOAR (Supportive, Optimistic, Accepting, Responsible), and Brendan's hard work and talent are a shining example of that!

Family Life Education Update: As part of our commitment to open communication, we want to inform you that the recommended Family Life Education materials from FCPS are available for review by the community until Monday, June 10th at 4:30 PM. View the  details and a feedback form

Together We Achieve!  At Springfield Estates, we believe in fostering a welcoming environment where every student feels like they belong. If your child is facing challenges in finishing the year strong, please don't hesitate to reach out to a trusted adult at school, whether it's a teacher, counselor, or administrator. Remember, "Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow. We All Belong Here!"  Visit FCPS’ website for more attendance resources

We look forward to another exciting week filled with learning and fun!

Sincerely,

April Martin
Proud Principal

Building Next Year's Classes - Your Input Matters!

We're planning classes for next year and value your input on how to best support your child's learning.

Complete this form by June 7, 2024 to share:

  • Learning Styles: Tell us about your child's learning preferences to help us create a suitable environment.
  • Teacher Qualities: Describe the teacher characteristics that would benefit your child the most.

Separation Requests: The form allows you to request separation from another student, however, placement prioritizes learning needs, not friendships.

Teacher Requests: While we consider learning styles, specific teacher requests cannot be guaranteed.

Class Assignments: Due to enrollment fluctuations, final class placements are confirmed by mid-August.

Thank you for your valuable feedback!

Band & Strings for 2024-2025

This week SEES students heard performances by the SEES Band and Strings programs and your child may be thinking of being a part of one of these wonderful musical groups next year.  In FCPS, all 4th-6th grade students have the opportunity to play a strings instrument and all 5th-6th grade students have the opportunity to play a band or strings instrument.  Band and Strings instruction will occur once a week for the entire school year, your child will not miss any academic subjects to attend either of these classes.  Students who do not choose band or strings will be placed in an extra weekly class of General Music.

In order to help us plan our schedule, we need you and your child to let us know their musical intentions for next year.  ALL students, regardless if they choose band, strings, or “no instrument” need to return the forms in today’s Friday folder no later than Monday, June 3rd.  Even if Band or Strings currently is a “maybe” for next year, please register them for those options now.  Your child will have a paper registration coming home in today’s Friday folder, or you can complete it online via this link! https://forms.gle/wGqQAbUvcwvwyrdg9

If  you have any questions, you can contact Mr. Jakes, band director at dajakes@fcps.edu or Mr. Smith, strings director at spsmith3@fcps.edu.  We are happy to help!

Bus Transportation Requests for 2024-2025

If your child is a bus rider and will be using a bus stop next year other than the one assigned by FCPS transportation, you MUST complete the Exception to Ride TR52 form (click here and scroll to the link for the TR52 form). This includes children who go to SACC programs at other schools or who are using a stop other than the one automatically assigned by FCPS (such as for child care). These requests DO NOT roll over from year to year and must be renewed at the start of each school year. Once the next school year starts, Exception to Ride requests are not typically considered until September so it is important to start this process now. Please send the form back to SEES by Tuesday, June 10, and we will ensure that it gets to FCPS Transportation this summer for consideration for next school year. If your child will be using the stop assigned automatically by FCPS, you do not need to complete this form.
