News and Announcements May 3rd Edition

Majors achieve and thrive together with purpose and pride!

Happy May, Major Families!

May is an exciting month with many celebrations! We celebrate our Jewish American and Asian American & Pacific Islander students, families, and community members this month and the many contributions and accomplishments of those groups.

During the week of May 6-10, we also celebrate our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week! Take a moment to thank our teachers for their dedication and devotion to our students!

May 12 is Mothers’ Day, a day to honor our moms and those who have loved us as moms do, and May 28 is Armed Forces Day, which honors those who serve in all branches of the United States military.

We are also celebrating all that our students have learned and accomplished this year with our end of year testing.  For your convenience, our testing schedule is below.

As the year draws to a close, please remind your students of the importance of attendance.  Every day counts, and we want to see them on time, all day, every day!

I look forward to seeing you in the coming weeks as we bring Spring sports to an end and gear up for graduation!  Thank you for all of the support you show our students, staff, and school.  We appreciate you very much,

Karen Boyd, Acting Principal

MAJOR PRIDE!

Congratulations to Mr. Tyrone Reid and our Mount Vernon High School Early Childhood Careers students.  The ECC program is designed to prepare our high school students to be primary providers of childcare services by focusing on planning, organizing, and conducting meaningful play and learning activities for small children.  Our onsite  Little Majors program allows the students that opportunity.  Last Thursday, our Little Majors graduated as completers of this year's program.   Congratulations on a job well done by the ECC Team!!

The Assassin Game

Please note that the Senior Assassin Game and any variation of this game is neither condoned nor sanctioned by the school.  Students who bring toy guns, look alike guns, geleez or splat guns to school, or who use any item in a manner that makes it a projectile weapon (water bottles, etc.) will be subject to disciplinary measures as outlined in the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities.  We appreciate your partnership in helping to keep our students and our school a safe place to learn.

MVHS PTSA Board Positions 2024-2025

We are almost there but still need your help! We need more support for the next school year - 2024-2025. We have had some folks nominate themselves to be a part of our board next year (YAY!) but we need a couple more positions filled and one is critical to our getting off the ground. Please consider being a part of a great group of parents and a great school! We are happy to talk about each position if you have any questions. Our current Treasurer has worked extremely hard to get our finances as automated as possible to reduce the burden for the next person. PLEASE take a minute and consider a role for yourself or to talk to a friend that may be interested or know someone. It's a great way to get to know the school, your child's teachers, and the staff.
