Mustang Memo 5.3.24

fourth

These fabulous fourth graders helped Dr. Sheers plan Teacher Appreciation Week (and spirit day week)!

Teacher Appreciation Requests

As we plan for a week of fun celebrating our amazing staff, we would love the following to support our planning:

  • Donated gift cards (varied amount) - Direct to Kelly Sheers
  • Assorted candy/chocolates - Drop off to the office

Note from Dr. Sheers

Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6 - 10), we are filled with gratitude and admiration for the incredible work our teachers and staff do each day to nurture, educate, and inspire our children. Their dedication, passion, and tireless efforts make a profound difference in the lives of our students and our entire school community.

We believe that showing appreciation is not just a one-time event but an ongoing commitment to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of our educators. Therefore, we invite you to join us in expressing our heartfelt gratitude to our teachers and staff.

Let's come together as a community to celebrate and honor the remarkable individuals who shape the future of our children. Together, we can make this Teacher Appreciation Week truly special!

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees who go above and beyond to help others and show they care about their students, colleagues, and the community. We invite you to submit a story below to acknowledge the great work of an FCPS employee or group of employees who should receive FCPS CARES recognition.

Important Information

Cell Phones/Smart Watches
We'd like to reinforce the guidelines for parents (and students) regarding Student Rights and Responsibilities concerning Cell Phones and Smart Watches.

Throughout the school day, phones should be muted and kept in backpacks. While Apple Watches/Smart Watches are permitted to be worn, features such as texting, internet browsing, and phone calls should not be used. Additionally, the use of phones, tablets, and other mobile devices is not allowed in the bathrooms. Failure to adhere to these rules may lead to disciplinary action.

Bike & Roll to School Day is Wednesday, May 8, 2024
WSES is joining children and adults around the world to celebrate the benefits of walking and bicycling.  This event is an excellent opportunity to review safe routes to school and encourage children to be more active and inspire lasting change and healthy habits! https://www.walkbiketoschool.org/learn-more/about-the-events/about-bike-to-school-day/

Field Day
This year’s Field Day for grades K - 6 will be held on Friday, May 31st. We have been working hard to teach all the games and make sure students have all the information they need. I want to thank everyone who signed up to volunteer.  All slots are now full!  We couldn’t do this without your support.

Below is some information concerning the event for your child:

  • 3rd - 6th grade Field Day will take place in the morning from 9:20 am - 11:40 am
  • K - 2nd grade Field Day will be in the afternoon from 12:40 pm – 2:30 p.m.
  • Students should bring a water bottle for them to carry from one station to the next (no Gatorade, Juice, or Soda, only water please).
  • Students wear a hat to help with the sun.

We are looking forward to another fun-filled and successful Field Day at West Springfield Elementary this year. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Mr. Aleman (wfaleman@fcps.edu). If you would like to come watch the event, make sure to check  in at the front office first please!
