Permission to Retest Google Form

The Virginia Board of Education allows middle school students who fail Standards of Learning (SOL) tests by a narrow margin to retake the test before the end of the school year.  Retesting is available when a student fails their first attempt with a score of 375-399 (where 400 is passing).

Parent permission is required for any retests in grades 7-8.  A decision not to allow retesting will not impact your child’s course grade or academic record.

If you believe your child would benefit from a second opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills on the SOL test, please complete the Parent Permission Retest Form by clicking the link below.

Athletic Physicals for MS Sports

Athletic physicals are required for middle and high school student-athletes.  Beginning May 1, 2024, FCPS high schools will offer athletic pre-participation physical exams for students interested in middle school sports during the 2024-25 school year.   These events serve as the primary fundraiser for our high school athletic training programs and each exam costs $50.  Rising middle school students are eligible to receive a physical at no cost although donations to the HS athletic training program are welcomed.

Pre-registration is highly encouraged; walk-in appointments may not be available.  You can register here: Student registration.  Once your registration is received, the school’s athletic trainer will contact you to confirm your appointment time.  Athletic physical exams must be completed on this form: FCPS Middle School Sports Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physical Examination Form (PPE).

If you are a medical professional (MD, DO, NP, PA, ATC, PT, EMT, etc.) interested in volunteering your time in support of these events, please register to help out: Volunteer registration.

Join CVHS Colorguard! The Sport of the Arts!

Come to an interest meeting to learn about Colorguard! It's open to any LMS student. It's happening  Tuesday April 16th and Tuesday April 23rd  during A Block after school. Students can come learn about colorguard, learn to spin flags, and know more about this community sport! Students: Meet in C105.

Families, please encourage your student to inquire about colorguard if they might be interested. See Ms. Sterling in C105 or contact by email at lasterling@fcps.edu.

Led by two coaches, one of which is Ms. Sterling, colorguard is an engaging, fast-paced sport that participates with the marching band at CVHS, performing during football games! We also have Winterguard, where we perform a show to music. Students who are in 7th grade will just learn about it and continue in 8th grade , but 8th grade students can join the team for the following school year!

No experience is necessary, and if you want to come have fun, make some friends, stay active and learn something new, please come check out one of the interest meetings!

Learn more about the criteria and process to apply for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch.

If you have children eligible for the federal Free and Reduced-Price Meals program, they may also be eligible to participate in other Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) fee-based programs without paying a fee or by paying a reduced fee (e.g classes with a student fee).

To learn more and apply online click here : Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FRM) | Fairfax County Public Schools (fcps.edu)

The free and reduced-price meals application also includes a section where you provide consent to share information allowing FCPS staff (School Principal, school counselors and other FCPS program staff) to share information about your children's meal eligibility status.

Information received by FCPS staff will only be used for the purposes described in the application.

Attendance FYI:

As students transition to middle school, one aspect that can sometimes be confusing is that each period has its own attendance. If a student arrives to school after 1st Period, their attendance will show an absence from all class periods they missed entirely and a tardy to the period they arrived during. They will not receive an all-day absence unless they were absent from all class periods.

To avoid receiving an automated attendance call, please submit the Attendance Form, or call our 24/7 attendance line at 703-988-8181 to report your student’s absence, late arrival, or early dismissal before 8:00 a.m. (i.e. before the end of 1st Period).
