Hughes News April 19, 2024

p

Greetings, Team Langston Hughes:

We're swiftly approaching the end of the school year with only 36 days left! Time truly flies when immersed in meaningful activities and learning experiences.

This week marks the beginning of SOL testing for our 8th graders. It's essential that each student arrives with his/her school-issued laptop fully charged and a good night's rest. You can find the SOL testing schedule in this newsletter and also available on our school's website for your convenience.

In addition, support our talented students as they showcase their skills in the upcoming production of Bye Bye Birdie. Please refer to the dates and times provided in this newsletter as well.

Finally, I encourage you to maintain active involvement in your child's academic journey by regularly monitoring their grades and attendance through ParentVUE. Let's work together to ensure that every one of our Panthers finishes the year strong!

Remember… we are Langston Hughes Middle School – where awesome is the new normal.

With Panther Pride,

Principal Mizell

This coming week, we celebrate our amazing administrative professionals.

Athletic Physicals for MS Sports

Athletic physicals are required for middle and high school student-athletes.  Beginning May 1, 2024, FCPS high schools will offer athletic pre-participation physical exams for students interested in middle school sports during the 2024-25 school year.   These events serve as the primary fundraiser for our high school athletic training programs and each exam costs $50.  Rising middle school students are eligible to receive a physical at no cost although donations to the HS athletic training program are welcomed.

Pre-registration is highly encouraged; walk-in appointments may not be available.  You can register here: Student registration.  Once your registration is received, the school’s athletic trainer will contact you to confirm your appointment time.  Athletic physical exams must be completed on this form: FCPS Middle School Sports Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physical Examination Form (PPE).

If you are a medical professional (MD, DO, NP, PA, ATC, PT, EMT, etc.) interested in volunteering your time in support of these events, please register to help out: Volunteer registration.

As we welcome students to the Langston Hughes family, students will participate in activities designed to acclimate them to the middle school, build confidence, motivate academic excellence, and form community. We hope to see you there!  It’s a GREAT time to be a Panther!   Should you have questions/concerns, contact our after-school specialist, Mr. Kyle Franklin at FMKyle1@fcps.edu.
