A note from Dr. Goodloe

Dear Charger Families,

It is great to be a Chantilly Charger! We have had a fantastic week of learning and activity at Chantilly and are looking forward to a great weekend ahead celebrating with our Seniors at Prom at Sweeney Barn Saturday evening.  We kicked off the weekend and district play for our spring sports with a Spring Activities Pep Rally earlier today hosted by Chantilly Leadership which included an awesome dance performance by members of our Chantilly STEP team. Earlier this week, our friends and future Chargers from Brookfield Elementary School visited with our Chantilly Scholars to look ahead to high school opportunities including a tour of our Chantilly Academy. And it was a pleasure to connect with our class of 2028 from Rachel Carson MS on a visit along with Mr. Shin and Mr. Bowerman showcasing the great opportunities to get involved at Chantilly for our future students. I am energized each day by the connections our students are making with one another, and in the community. #LeadtheCHARGE

Visual and Performing Arts:

On April 5, the Chantilly community came together to celebrate the arts at the annual Chantilly Pyramid Art Show. This exciting event showcased the creative talents of students from Brookfield Elementary, Greenbriar East Elementary, Greenbriar West Elementary, Lees Corner Elementary, Poplar Tree Elementary, Franklin Middle, Rocky Run Middle and Chantilly High School. Visit here to see more!

Our Spring Main Stage performances of  the musical Anything Goes opens on Thursday, April 18. I cannot wait to see our talented Chargers performing. Tickets are going fast, especially for Friday night's Cappies performance. For tickets and additional information, visit www.chantillydrama.org

Month of Military Child Spirit Week and Purple Up!

This April, we celebrate children of our service members and veterans whose sacrifice and support allow their parents to serve our Nation and protect children everywhere. At Chantilly we are grateful for our military connections and the service of our families. Purple Up is the campaign that propels activities throughout the Month of the Military Child to honor,
acknowledge, and support Military Connected Youth in our schools and communities. A Military Connected Youth is a child or adolescent with a close family member (parent, step parent, sibling, step-sibling, cousin) or
friend serving in any branch of the United States Armed Forces and any status, Active Duty, Reserve, or National Guard. Military Connected Youth face unique challenges. These youth deserve our support as they support their family members who serve. We look forward to celebrating Purple Up Day on April 17 and encourage all in our school community to wear purple to show their support.

FFN

Chantilly High School is proud to partner with Food For Neighbors (FFN) to help feed our local students who deal with food insecurity because even in counties as wealthy as Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun at least one in four kids in our area are struggling with hunger.

Food for Neighbors is a local organization addressing this problem by collecting food from our community via the Red Bag Program and donating directly to our local schools. The food is then distributed to our students every week through our food pantry.

We hope you will consider participating in the Red Bag food collection program. You can make a difference in a local student’s life by simply adding a few extra items to your shopping cart every 2 months.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Request a reusable Red Bag here and Food For Neighbors will drop it off at your house.
  2. Fill the Red Bag with food items that are listed on a tag on that bag.
  3. Put the Red Bag outside your front door in the morning on the next bag collection day (which is Saturday, April 27th). And don’t worry, they send reminders.

Your Red Bag will be picked up from your house, the food sorted at a local school and delivered directly to the school food pantry at CHS. As an added benefit, you can get a tax deduction for the food that you donate!

With your help, even more kids can be fed. For more information on the Red Bag program click hereCheck out what items FFN collects as they are targeted to ready-made, individually packaged food items that students and teens can eat on-the-go or with little preparation.

The organization also offers volunteer opportunities including Driving to pick up filled Red Bags and Sorting the donated food during the Red Bag Day events. Visit the FFN FAQ page to find out more about and to sign up to volunteer in these 2 very important roles. This is a great way for students to receive community service hours, too.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact ; Nick Thayer nrthayer@fcps.edu (Social Worker), Heather Ellison centrevilleam@foodforneighbors.org (FFN Area Manager) or Karen Joseph Karen@foodforneighbors.org (FFN Executive Director)

Thanks for helping us provide food to students who need that extra support!

Institute for the Arts:

Students in all FCPS secondary schools can enroll in the Institute for the Arts. IFTA is a two- or three-week summer Arts enrichment program for students in rising 7th through 12th grades. Students create their own schedules in Art, Music, Theatre, and Dance from nearly 60 courses offered. Transportation is provided from around the county. Tuition assistance is available for students who qualify. Check out the Institute for the Arts website for more information or email ifta@fcps.edu.
