Permission to Retest Google Form

The Virginia Board of Education allows middle school students who fail Standards of Learning (SOL) tests by a narrow margin to retake the test before the end of the school year.  Retesting is available when a student fails their first attempt with a score of 375-399 (where 400 is passing).

Parent permission is required for any retests in grades 7-8.  A decision not to allow retesting will not impact your child’s course grade or academic record.

If you believe your child would benefit from a second opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills on the SOL test, please complete the Parent Permission Retest Form by clicking the link below.

Join Science 7 for the MWEE!

help

On Tuesday, April 16 and Wednesday, April 17, students in Science 7 will be participating in their Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE). This experience is a great opportunity for students to work with scientists and naturalists and engage in authentic scientific practices while exploring our local watershed, but we can’t do this without you! We are looking for chaperones to help students move between stations or by running a fun, easy station (requires minimal training, but students are guaranteed to enjoy it). We have openings for chaperones on Wednesday, 4/16 from 7:10-11:00, Wednesday, 4/16, from 10:30-2:15, and Thursday, 4/17, from 7:10-11:00 and Thursday, 4/17 from 10:30-2:15. Students will be attending the MWEE based on class periods and teacher of each student.  If you are interested and available to help us with our MWEE, please contact Victoria Tripp at vetripp@fcps.edu

Athletic Physicals for MS Sports

Athletic physicals are required for middle and high school student-athletes.  Beginning May 1, 2024, FCPS high schools will offer athletic pre-participation physical exams for students interested in middle school sports during the 2024-25 school year.   These events serve as the primary fundraiser for our high school athletic training programs and each exam costs $50.  Rising middle school students are eligible to receive a physical at no cost although donations to the HS athletic training program are welcomed.

Pre-registration is highly encouraged; walk-in appointments may not be available.  You can register here: Student registration.  Once your registration is received, the school’s athletic trainer will contact you to confirm your appointment time.  Athletic physical exams must be completed on this form: FCPS Middle School Sports Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physical Examination Form (PPE).

If you are a medical professional (MD, DO, NP, PA, ATC, PT, EMT, etc.) interested in volunteering your time in support of these events, please register to help out: Volunteer registration.

Ramadan and Accommodations

Throughout the year, as we celebrate and recognize various cultural holidays and observances, we are pleased to be providing accommodations, including lunch, prayer/meditation and silent reflection space.

We have reserved a supervised calming space at Liberty during all lunches for students in observance. If your student wishes to join, please have them fill out the linked Google Form. They can also access this form through their schoology account or their Unity Time teacher. Student's must complete the google form in order to use this space.

Community Conversations:

Join Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid for Our Schools, Our Future – A Community Conversation. Your voice matters! Share your thoughts about FCPS and bring your questions to a conversation on:

Tuesday, May 21, 6:30-7:30 p.m., at Katherine Johnson Middle School.

Pre-registration for a Community Conversation is not required but will help FCPS plan. Childcare and interpretation services will be provided for all events based on staff availability. Events are open to all. Learn about other opportunities to connect with Dr. Reid.

Join a Community Conversation on Fentanyl and Other Drugs

A community conversation addressing the opioid crisis within Northern Virginia and Fairfax County Public Schools will be held Monday, March 18, 6:30-8 p.m., in the auditorium at Lake Braddock Secondary School. Please enter through Door #14.

All attendees will receive a free REVIVE! Narcan training during the event and learn about support services currently available within FCPS and Fairfax County.

This discussion will provide families, staff, and students with valuable knowledge about the dangers of drugs and deadly fentanyl. The material discussed is suitable for students in grades 6-12. Together as a community, we aim to explore collaborative strategies to minimize the impact of these harmful and too-often fatal substances.

Language interpretation services are available as well as American Sign Language accommodation. Childcare and transportation will also be provided, as needed. Learn more about the event and register online

Free and Reduced-Price Meals:

Learn more about the criteria and process to apply for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch.

If you have children eligible for the federal Free and Reduced-Price Meals program, they may also be eligible to participate in other Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) fee-based programs without paying a fee or by paying a reduced fee (e.g classes with a student fee).

To learn more and apply online click here : Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FRM) | Fairfax County Public Schools (fcps.edu)

The free and reduced-price meals application also includes a section where you provide consent to share information allowing FCPS staff (School Principal, school counselors and other FCPS program staff) to share information about your children's meal eligibility status.

Information received by FCPS staff will only be used for the purposes described in the application.

Attendance FYI:

As students transition to middle school, one aspect that can sometimes be confusing is that each period has its own attendance. If a student arrives to school after 1st Period, their attendance will show an absence from all class periods they missed entirely and a tardy to the period they arrived during. They will not receive an all-day absence unless they were absent from all class periods.

To avoid receiving an automated attendance call, please submit the Attendance Form, or call our 24/7 attendance line at 703-988-8181 to report your student’s absence, late arrival, or early dismissal before 8:00 a.m. (i.e. before the end of 1st Period).
