Letter from Mr. Pietzman 📩

Dear GBE Families,

Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed a much deserved Spring Break. It’s hard to believe we are starting our final quarter of the school year today! It was great seeing our students return and we look forward to a successful fourth quarter together!

Mark your calendars for our Spring Block Party on Saturday, April 20th from 12:00 pm-2:00 pm. Our Book Fair will be open for our families in the library during the Block Party. We will also continue our traditional Staff vs Sixth Grade Students Volleyball game in the gym starting at 12:30! We are hoping for nice weather so families can enjoy our playground and visit the food trucks for lunch. The grand finale will include the PTA auction winner throwing a pie in my face at 2:00 pm on the playground! Our downstairs art room will provide a sensory friendly quiet space for families to visit anytime during the event. Hope to see you there!

Our team hosted our Kindergarten Orientation yesterday afternoon. It was such a wonderful time meeting new and returning families as we prepare for the 2024-2025 school year. If you have a child turning five by September 30th, please click here: Kindergarten and New Student Registration to start the registration process as soon as possible. Also, please share this information with any existing or new neighbors! We can’t wait to meet our future Roadrunners!

There are two surveys open right now for our GBE families that will provide important feedback. On Monday, March 18th, families received an email titled “FCPS Survey” containing a link to complete the online FCPS Principal Evaluation/Guardian Feedback Form. Families can complete the form now through this Friday, April 5th. Your feedback means so much to me and thank you in advance for sharing it through this form. The second survey is the FCPS Family Engagement Survey. It closes tonight. You can click here to access this survey. Your feedback matters for our school team to reflect on what is working well and where we can continue to grow as we support your family at GBE. I appreciate your time completing these important surveys!

Let’s make our last quarter of the 2023-2024 school year the best yet! We have school community events, musical performances, and student celebrations to experience together. I can’t wait to see our students shine with a strong finish to the school year.

Sincerely,

Dave Pietzman, NBCT

Aprilletter

Dave Pietzman

Principal Evaluation Survey

I value your feedback! On Monday, March 18, Greenbriar East parents/guardians were sent an email that included a link to complete the online FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form. This questionnaire is part of the VDOE-mandated Performance Evaluation Program for principals and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include how the school principal demonstrates/impacts instructional leadership, school climate, management, communication and community relations, culturally responsive and equitable leadership, and professionalism within the school. The survey will be open until April 5. Please look for an email from FCPS Surveys, and take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your feedback matters and will help inform our future practices.

Family Engagement Survey

⏰ DEADLINE EXTENDED: The Family Engagement Survey closes today, Wednesday, April 3! This is your last chance to provide feedback about your school's welcoming environment, communication, volunteer opportunities, and more: https://bit.ly/FESURVEY2024

Easter 💐

We hope our families that celebrated had a joyful Easter! This year's Easter artwork was created by Falls Church High School student Dayanara M. The springtime celebration of Easter is the most important Christian holiday. It commemorates the resurrection of Jesus, who sacrificed so that Christians may have life with God after death. #OurFCPS This artwork was designed as part of the FCPS Observance Design Challenge for Students. Paraprofessional Appreciation Day

Each year, the first Wednesday in April is set nationally to recognize the contributions of paraprofessionals. We are so lucky to have the best paraprofessional staff at GBE supporting such a wide range of needs for our students. Our staff, students, and families are grateful for all your hard work each and every day.

National Library Week

April is School Library Month and it's a great time to celebrate the essential role that school librarians play in the lives of students. School librarians ensure students have access to a wide variety of high-quality books and resources that connect them to the world and build a culture of literacy. Librarians develop lessons that are meaningful to students and help them develop critical thinking, inquiry, and information literacy skills. They support learning across all subject areas by teaching students the skills to be independent problem-solvers and creative thinkers. By creating a safe environment for all students to be engaged and curious learners, FCPS libraries are places where everyone belongs.

Take a moment to learn more about FCPS Library Programs and share your appreciation of your school librarian!

We are so grateful to have Mr. George Lotz as our Librarian at GBE. Tomorrow is School Librarian Day. Thank you Mr. Lotz for being amazing!!

National Assistant Principal's Week

Join NASSP, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and the American Federation of School Administrators in honoring the enormous contributions of assistant principals to student success. We are grateful for the incredible dedication and leadership Ms. Eley and Ms. Jeter provide at Greenbriar East! Due to multiple appreciation days this week, we will celebrate Ms. Eley and Ms. Jeter next week! They are the BEST!

Autism Acceptance Month

April is Autism Acceptance Month. One in 44 children is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in the United States, according to the CDC. Our schools and staff play a vital role in creating and ensuring inclusive environments that accommodate and affirm autistic students.

Month of the Military Child

April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience. Learn more about Month of the Military Child and FCPS’ resources for military families.

National Arab American Heritage Month

FCPS is proud to celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month in April. This special month provides an opportunity to recognize the history and valuable contributions of Arab Americans. Arab Americans have ancestry in one of the world’s 22 Arab nations, which are located from northern Africa through western Asia. The people of these nations are ethnically, politically, and religiously diverse but share a common cultural and linguistic heritage. Learn more about the heritage months, celebrations, and traditions celebrated in FCPS.

Muslim American Heritage Month

Muslim American Heritage Month is a time for celebrating the history, contributions, culture, and an enhanced understanding of the diverse population of Muslim Americans. View the Fairfax County School Board resolution honoring Muslim American Heritage Month.

Feed Fairfax Run

Did you know 1 in 6 children in Fairfax County goes hungry? Research shows food insecurity affects a child's "concentration, memory, mood, and motor skills" all skills necessary to perform and be successful at school. Help fight childhood hunger in Fairfax by participating in the Feed Fairfax 5k/1 Mile Fun Run which will take place on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the Chantilly Planet Fitness in Greenbriar Shopping Center. 100% of race fees and donations support local charities in Fairfax to fight child food insecurity.
