AP Appreciation Week

A note from Dr. Goodloe

Dear Charger Families,

It has been great to welcome our Chargers back to school after spring vacation and a strong start to the home stretch of the 23-24 school year. With only 9 weeks of school (and less for seniors), it is so important that our students are at school, attending class, each and every day!  Our team of administrators and counselors will be supporting students who demonstrate a high number of absences and regular late arrivals to school or classes throughout the coming weeks and we will reach out to families to keep you informed.  Thank you for your partnership! Attendance Matters.

Principal Feedback Survey

All Chantilly HS parents/guardians were sent an email that included a link to complete the online FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form. This questionnaire is part of the VDOE-mandated Performance Evaluation Program for principals and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include how the school principal demonstrates/impacts instructional leadership, school climate, management, communication and community relations, culturally responsive and equitable leadership, and professionalism within the school. Today is the last day to complete the survey. I value your feedback!

Eclipse Safety Information for 4/8

As many of you know, a total solar eclipse will occur on Monday, April 8, and will be viewable in our area. The eclipse will begin around 2:00pm and conclude around 4:30pm.  While this is a rare and exciting event, our students’ safety must be our priority. For your reference, here are some resources shared by FCPS, including how students can safely view the solar eclipse at home, as well as eye safety information. Peak viewing time will occur after Chantilly dismissal, and we encourage students to safely view from home.

Thank you Librarians and A.P.s!

We are so grateful to our outstanding leaders in our Library, Ms. Zemba, Ms. Schoenberger, and Ms. Hackett and all of our amazing Chantilly administrators.  It has been a pleasure to celebrate National School Library Day - April 4 and National Assistant Principals' Week and recognize how each of our staff members Lead the CHARGE every day. If you would like to share a note of thanks with one of our administrators, you can do so here.

FFN

Chantilly High School is proud to partner with Food For Neighbors (FFN) to help feed our local students who deal with food insecurity because even in counties as wealthy as Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun at least one in four kids in our area are struggling with hunger.

Food for Neighbors is a local organization addressing this problem by collecting food from our community via the Red Bag Program and donating directly to our local schools. The food is then distributed to our students every week through our food pantry.

We hope you will consider participating in the Red Bag food collection program. You can make a difference in a local student’s life by simply adding a few extra items to your shopping cart every 2 months.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Request a reusable Red Bag here and Food For Neighbors will drop it off at your house.
  2. Fill the Red Bag with food items that are listed on a tag on that bag.
  3. Put the Red Bag outside your front door in the morning on the next bag collection day (which is Saturday, April 27th). And don’t worry, they send reminders.

Your Red Bag will be picked up from your house, the food sorted at a local school and delivered directly to the school food pantry at CHS. As an added benefit, you can get a tax deduction for the food that you donate!

With your help, even more kids can be fed. For more information on the Red Bag program click hereCheck out what items FFN collects as they are targeted to ready-made, individually packaged food items that students and teens can eat on-the-go or with little preparation.

The organization also offers volunteer opportunities including Driving to pick up filled Red Bags and Sorting the donated food during the Red Bag Day events. Visit the FFN FAQ page to find out more about and to sign up to volunteer in these 2 very important roles. This is a great way for students to receive community service hours, too.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact ; Nick Thayer nrthayer@fcps.edu (Social Worker), Heather Ellison centrevilleam@foodforneighbors.org (FFN Area Manager) or Karen Joseph Karen@foodforneighbors.org (FFN Executive Director)

Thanks for helping us provide food to students who need that extra support!

Institute for the Arts:

Students in all FCPS secondary schools can enroll in the Institute for the Arts. IFTA is a two- or three-week summer Arts enrichment program for students in rising 7th through 12th grades. Students create their own schedules in Art, Music, Theatre, and Dance from nearly 60 courses offered. Transportation is provided from around the county. Tuition assistance is available for students who qualify. Check out the Institute for the Arts website for more information or email ifta@fcps.edu.
