Spring Break:

March 25- March 29- School Closed (Spring Break)

Liberty Middle School Families,

Spring vacation will be here before we know it.  We want to encourage our families and students to disconnect from school and technology. While we realize some students may have a long-term assignment due after the break, or are working to make-up assignments, no work will be due the first two full days back to school.  We have also instructed our teachers not to give any major assessments the first two full days (April 3 & 4) back to school. This follows our long-standing practice related to holidays and breaks from school.

We are hopeful that this will allow families to have meaningful time with their children over spring vacation.  Children and adults need breaks from the many demands of school life. A healthy balance is critical to everyone’s well-being.

Sincerely,

Adam Erbrecht

Principal

Liberty Middle School

Ramadan and Accommodations

Throughout the year, as we celebrate and recognize various cultural holidays and observances, we are pleased to be providing accommodations, including lunch, prayer/meditation and silent reflection space.

We have reserved a supervised calming space at Liberty during all lunches for students in observance. If your student wishes to join, please have them fill out the linked Google Form. They can also access this form through their schoology account or their Unity Time teacher. Student's must complete the google form in order to use this space.

2023-24 Family Engagement Survey

FCPS will administer our third Family Engagement Survey from Sunday, March 3 to Friday, March 22. The survey is designed to gather data for Strategic Plan Pillar B: Vibrant Home, School, and Community Partnerships; and to better recognize, understand, respect, and address family strengths and needs in our schools and community.

The survey will also be used to measure our current success with family engagement, and allow us to deepen that engagement and continue building trust while empowering families to support their students’ success. Data may impact School Innovation and Improvement Plan (SIIP) strategies aligned to specific goals and metrics.

Join a Community Conversation on Fentanyl and Other Drugs

A community conversation addressing the opioid crisis within Northern Virginia and Fairfax County Public Schools will be held Monday, March 18, 6:30-8 p.m., in the auditorium at Lake Braddock Secondary School. Please enter through Door #14.

All attendees will receive a free REVIVE! Narcan training during the event and learn about support services currently available within FCPS and Fairfax County.

This discussion will provide families, staff, and students with valuable knowledge about the dangers of drugs and deadly fentanyl. The material discussed is suitable for students in grades 6-12. Together as a community, we aim to explore collaborative strategies to minimize the impact of these harmful and too-often fatal substances.

Language interpretation services are available as well as American Sign Language accommodation. Childcare and transportation will also be provided, as needed. Learn more about the event and register online

Liberty Library Makerspace:

Our library makerspace could use a restock on items that students use often! Here are some of the items that we need:

  • Crayola crayons (16-count)
  • Crayola markers
  • Duct tape
  • Glue sticks
  • Bottles of glue
  • Masking tape
  • Ballpoint pens
  • Scotch tape

Feel free to reach out to our Liberty librarian, Maggie Wickham, with any questions: mpwickham@fcps.edu. All donations can be brought to the main office or brought directly to the library.

Thank you for your support!

Attendance FYI:

As students transition to middle school, one aspect that can sometimes be confusing is that each period has its own attendance. If a student arrives to school after 1st Period, their attendance will show an absence from all class periods they missed entirely and a tardy to the period they arrived during. They will not receive an all-day absence unless they were absent from all class periods.

To avoid receiving an automated attendance call, please submit the Attendance Form, or call our 24/7 attendance line at 703-988-8181 to report your student’s absence, late arrival, or early dismissal before 8:00 a.m. (i.e. before the end of 1st Period).
