A note from Dr. Goodloe

Dear Charger Families,

Is March coming in like a Lion or a Lamb...is spring really here or are we in for another dose of winter? I cannot believe we are seeing spring flowers already AND talking about Cherry Blossom Peak just a few weeks away. As March begins and our thoughts turn to spring, I can't help but reflect that exactly one year ago today I officially joined the Chantilly Charger community as principal. As I reflect on my first full year, I feel very grateful to be able to serve our outstanding school community and for all of the support you have shared with me and the connections we have made together this year.  As we move into spring, I will be reaching out to you to engage and gather your feedback to help guide our future course as a school community. Opportunities to connect in person, virtually, and online through feedback forms will be offered, so that we may collaborate to identify our common beliefs and collective commitments as families, students, and staff to drive the future vision of Chantilly HS.  As always, I thank you for your partnership and support and I am energized by our future work!

A few highlights from this week:

  • We enjoyed a visit from our two new School Board Members Anderson (Springfield) and Dixit (Sully). Together we walked the building and visited classrooms to highlight our outstanding programs and share our facilities challenges. I am looking forward to a positive partnership with our board to advance the needs of Chantilly HS.
  • Spring athletics are upon us! This week I had the opportunity to watch our Girls JV and Varsity Lacrosse Scrimmages earlier this week and celebrate two big wins to kick off their season. I wish all of our teams good luck as their seasons begin and I look forward to cheering on all of our athletes and spring activities participants.
  • Wishing our Model UN and DECA students the best of luck as they move on to local and state competitions this weekend. I am looking forward to celebrating their successes!
  • Music is alive and vibrant in our Chantilly Pyramid. It has been a joy to hear our talented musicians from our feeder schools play and sing in their state pre-assessment concerts over the past week. I wish all of our band, choir and orchestra students the best of luck in their upcoming performances.
  • The countdown to graduation is on! It was a pleasure to connect with so many of our class of 2024 families and students at our 100 Days to Graduation meeting this week. We cannot wait to celebrate our graduates on June 7 at 9:30 AM at Eagle Bank arena.

✅ Look for the FCPS Family Engagement Survey This Sunday

Parents/caregivers will receive the FCPS’ Family Engagement Survey Sunday, March 3, from independent research firm K12 Insight. Please participate — your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve practices to best support our students. Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and our school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, better social skills and behavior, and an increased likelihood of graduating high school. The survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete and will be available in 10 languages. Please visit the Family Engagement Survey webpage for more information. Your voice matters!

FAFSA Updates for Seniors and Their Parents/Guardians

There have been several technological challenges with the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)since its launch on December 31, 2023. The latest news is that colleges will not get FAFSA summaries from the U.S. Department of Education until mid-March at the earliest. As a result, colleges won’t be able to give students financial aid award letters based on their FAFSA information until late April to May, at best. Students who applied to a college that uses the CSS Profile may receive financial aid information sooner.

Different media outlets are reporting a growing list of colleges that will push back deadlines for students to accept offers of admission into May and even June. The American Council on Education has a database of colleges and universities that have extended their deadline to commit to enroll. We recommend that all information obtained by a secondary source be confirmed directly with the college or university.

If you are a caregiver or student with questions or persistent issues filling out the FAFSA, consider scheduling a free appointment with our partners at College Access Fairfax. Email Appointments@CollegeAccessFairfax.org. All FAFSA help provided by your school or College Access Fairfax is free.
