Family Engagement Opportunities

Over the past few weeks, Kindergarten, 2nd, and 3rd grade have invited our families to come in and see what we've been learning.

Our Kindergarten students began with a driving question: How can we as a global community raise awareness and bring about exposure to different cultures where everyone feels seen and represented?

The kindergarten team along with students, and Specialists traveled to different countries by virtual airplane/flight simulator. Students selected and decorated a country of their choice to represent their country and showcase the country in the hallway. Classes traveled to different classrooms with their passports and learned about the culture through foods, games, artifacts, toys.

Our 2nd graders were weather reporters and shared with their families through oral presentations and posters characteristics of extreme weather, and 3rd graders created and hosted n Ancient China showcase to include research (done individually) and posters (completed collaboratively in small groups).

Thank you to all of the families who were able to come.  The students are proud of their accomplishments and get very excited to share!  First, fourth and fifth grade parents, stay tunned for your invitations!

Attendance Updates

Currently, we have a chronic absenteeism rate of 20%.  This mean that these students have missed 10% of school so far.  If your child has missed 11 or more days of school so far, they are considered chronically absent, which significantly disrupts their learning.

Did you know that missing just 2 days of school each month causes a student to miss 30 hours of math instruction and 60 hours of reading and writing instruction.  Attendance is critical to student success.  Remember...its' cool to be in school!

If your child is not feeling well, please refer to the When Should I Keep My Child Home? webpage for guidance.

Free Online Tutoring

FCPS students have unlimited access to 24/7, on-demand, online tutoring support services through Tutor.com at no cost to families. Students can connect online any time, any place, and in most K-12 subjects for however long they need. Tutoring may be on-demand and/or scheduled at a time convenient for the student and/or family.  Visit this link to find out more information!

SP

23-24 SIIP (School Improvement & Innovation Plan)

Our SIIP is now posted on our school website at this link. We have 3 goals (1 reading, 1 math, and absenteeism) which are directly aligned to the new FCPS Strategic Plan. Visit this site to learn more about the Strategic Plan.

A team of staff members started to analyze data this past July, and these findings are what helped drive our SIIP plan. Region 2 leaders also provided input and feedback.  The plan will be monitored every quarter.
