RVES Family Newsletter Feb. 23

February 23- Family Newsletter

The shortest weeks, make for the busiest weeks! This week we had an Invention Convention where our students showcased an invention of their own to share their ideas with other students and families. Students in our ID/IDS and EAC program had the opportunity to participate in a sensory fair here at the school! The smiles were big and the giggles were even bigger!

As we look at next week, we have a full week of school! Monday, Feb. 26 students will participate in the Kids Heart Challenge during specials, on Tuesday, Feb. 27 the PTA will have a 6th grade fundraiser at Silver Diner.

We hope you have a great weekend!

 Kids Heart Challenge

(formally Jump Rope for Heart)

RVES is particpating with Kids Heart Challenge, which is a service-learning based fundraising program that gives students the opportunity to raise funds, support family & friends health, and acquire lifesaving skills such as Hands Only CPR (done at home, not school). The assembly will be interactive for students and explain how the Challenge will take place.

All fundraising and learning will take place at home or in PE.

On Monday, February 26th, PE will host the Kids Heart Challenge and students will jump rope during the Specials time.

Safety Drills During the School Year

Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for FCPS. Each school has an emergency preparedness plan to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Schools are required by state law to practice emergency drills, including lockdown drills, each year. Schools are also required to notify parents and guardians at least 24 hours before a school conducts a lockdown drill. However, schools are not required to give the specific date and time of the drill in advance.

Our next lockdown drill will occur this next week.

Your child may come home and talk about their experience during the drill. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Please review these frequently asked questions to support your students before and after school lockdown drills.

Girls on The Run

Grades 3-6

Girls on the Run practices will be from March 6 through May 18 before school on Wednesdays and Fridays. We would love additional help if anyone can commit to 1 day a week, either Wednesdays or Fridays (or both if you want, too 😊). Coaching help would include helping to facilitate a lesson, then being out on the track with the girls as they run/walk laps.

The Girls then participate in a 5K during the weekend of May 18 - 19**

**5K event dates and locations are tentative.
