News and Announcements February 23rd Edition

Majors achieve and thrive together with purpose and pride!

Greetings,  Majors and Families,

I can hardly believe that spring is around the corner, but here we are…only 25 days away; and spring sports and school activities have already begun.  With that, I wanted to take a moment to emphasize the importance of safety for our students. While we encourage participation and enthusiasm for after school extra-curricular activities and tutoring sessions, it is crucial that our students are always under the supervision of a responsible adult or coach.

During the warmer months, students tend to want to hang around after school for a variety of reasons.  We kindly ask for your cooperation in reinforcing this message with your child.  Please help us remind them of the importance of adhering to safety guidelines and staying within sight of their designated supervisor at all times, especially after school when there are very few adults around.

By working together, we can create a positive and safe environment for our students to thrive in their athletic extra-curricular pursuits. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.

I look forward to seeing you soon at my last PTSA meeting/chat on March 13, 2024 at 6:00 pm in G100.

With Love and Major Pride,

Principal Rogers

THANK YOU TO OUR PTSA!

Thank you to Kristin Whitridge, our PTSA president, for presenting Melanie Cregger, our WAT teacher, with vocational supplies that were purchased through the PTSA mini grant.  WAT focuses on Virginia’s 22 Workplace Readiness Skills which help students gain knowledge about the world of work.  The supplies awarded through the mini grant will aid Ms. Cregger in teaching students job tasks.

Are you a student, or do you know a student who is interested in STEM?

The Army’s Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) offers several summer apprenticeship programs for high school students - all provide educational stipends while working with a mentor in a research lab.

The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) and the Research Engineering Apprenticeship Program (REAP) are accepting applications for summer opportunities.  Since each program has unique requirements, please ensure that you read the descriptions carefully so you will apply for the one that best suits you.

Please note that no housing is provided so it is important to choose a location close to you.  We encourage students to apply at multiple locations for a greater chance of participation.
