Dear Fairview Families,
It's hard to believe we have entered the third quarter of the school year! This week during our Falcon Focus lesson, our students will be learning about being a good communicator by using a social filter. Students will learn about how just like an air filter separates dust from our air at home, a social filter helps us to separate the stuff we think about saying, from the stuff we should say, or what is appropriate to say.
Instead of filtering out dust and dirt, our social filter filters out unkind, hurtful or unnecessary thoughts and words.
We encourage you to talk to your child about what they are learning in Morning Meetings and continue to practice these skills at home.
We are confident that the Falcon Focus lessons will be a valuable addition to our classroom instruction and a positive step forward in supporting the whole child. We look forward to sharing this journey with you!
Sincerely,
Samantha Goldstein
Principal

Our School Counselors Mrs. Fructuoso and Mrs. Doherty
This week marks National School Counseling Week, shining a spotlight on the invaluable contributions of school counselors in guiding students towards academic achievement and career planning. Mrs. Doherty and Mrs. Fructuoso, our dedicated counselors, play a pivotal role in supporting students through classroom lessons, group sessions, and one-on-one counseling. Let's seize this opportunity to express our gratitude by creating heartfelt cards to celebrate their tireless efforts. Whether it's a simple thank-you note, a piece of artwork, or a personal message highlighting their impact, let's show Mrs. Doherty and Mrs. Fructuoso how much they mean to Fairview.
This event will be rescheduled for February 7th at 9:15 in the POD. We will be inviting Angela Stotka, Reading Specialist to share about literacy. |

Call for Volunteers to Support ZEN Lunch
Beginning last year, Fairview has been able to offer ZEN Lunch to students in grades 4-6 on at least 3 days weekly. ZEN Lunch is an opportunity for students to eat in a calm quiet separate space away from the cafeteria. Students enjoy low lighting and calming music or videos (like the panda cam when that was a thing!). We will be able to continue offering this as an option as possible based on our staffing. We are asking for some support in helping us keep this going and consistently available for students. We are looking for parents that are willing to come to help us host Zen lunch on a consistent schedule, whether it be weekly on certain days, biweekly on a specific day or otherwise. This would require a volunteer to be badged through FCPS. If you are interested, please reach out to Lindsey Wilcox (lrwilcox@fcps.edu) in the main office for more information regarding badging and to discuss scheduling. Thank you for your consideration!

A BIG thank you to our Fairview community for collecting and sending in recycled materials for our Technology class. We are off to a great start! We will be starting these class group projects using the recycled materials very soon. We still need some items for these projects. If you would please collect and save some of these items and bring them to school, we would greatly appreciate your help. We will have collection bins placed in classrooms for these materials and at the entrance of the school by the office. Thank you for all your help. These are the only items we still need help gathering:
Bottle Caps
Paper Towel Holders
Toilet Paper Holders
THANK YOU!!!
Our lost and found is very full! Do you recognize any of these items? We have wonderful PTA volunteers who tag and hang these items up. Please remind your child to stop by the lost and found on their way to lunch! After a period of time, these items are donated.
Yearbooks are on sale now! Price is $16. Order online at www.strawbridge.net, online code:YB28140.
The deadline to order is April 8, 2024.
Please call the Main Office with any questions, 703-503-3700.

Want to know if your child's bus is on schedule or where the bus is? Here Comes the Bus® is an easy-to-use website and app that enables parents to see the location of their child’s school bus — almost in real time — on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer.
Parents can track multiple buses if their children don’t all ride the same bus; know exactly when children arrive at school or the bus stop; and receive customized text and/or email notifications about bus locations, schedule changes, or delays.
To get started, download the app from the Apple iOS or Android app store. Check out the Here Comes the Bus and Frequently Asked Questions webpages for more information.
Already using the Here Comes the Bus app? Send your feedback to HCTB@fcps.edu.
Note: eNotify text messaging will continue to be used for reporting bus delays and bus incidents.
