Flint Hill Updates

Good Afternoon Flint Hill Families,

We are excited to welcome our first group of spellers this evening for the spelling bee! We are glad to have this event back at FHES this year and look forward to celebrating our students who join in for the fun and experience.

Students in art have been hard at work on clay bowls for the upcoming Empty Bowls event on February 23rd. Students are using art to bring awareness to hunger in our community and are creating amazing works of art in the process.

Don't forget to save the date for our next PTA meeting on February 12th. Our school counselors, Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Starr, will join the meeting to share more information about calming corners and self-regulation skills for students.

Kindly,

Mr. Montaquila, Principal

Mr. Baker, Assistant Principal

Yearbook Snap! Share your photos!

For the last couple of years, we have asked the community to upload photos to add to our Yearbook. We received LOTS of submissions! While we can’t use every photo in the yearbook, we would love to offer the opportunity for our families to submit photos again.  Our yearbook theme this year is “You Matter”.

Please upload images to our Yearbook Snap shot. Access Code: flinthill24 In order to collect photos, we ask that they are either camera images or cell phone photos without the Live feature attached. If you upload photos and the ending is .HEIC instead of .JPG we are unable to use them in the yearbook.  We look forward to seeing everyone’s photo in the yearbook this year.

Place your yearbook order today!

Spring SEL Screener

The Spring Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3-6 during the week of March 4. Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. More information is available about the SEL Screener by accessing this link:

https://www.fcps.edu/student-tests-and-assessments/student-assessment-details/social-emotional-screener

If you have any questions please reach out to our SEL Screener Lead, Amy Williams, at aywilliams1@fcps.edu.

Snow Days This Winter

School buses in snow.

For the current school year, FCPS will be returning to its previous procedure for snow days — there will be no virtual learning days when school is closed due to bad weather.

During snow days, students may still access Tutor.com, complete any supplemental learning opportunities recommended by their teachers, and view educational programming (available virtually and on public access television channels):

Eleven snow days are built into the existing FCPS calendar. Eliminating virtual learning days will allow us to maximize students’ in-person learning and provide equitable access to instruction and student services.
