From the Principal’s Pen

Dear Laurel Hill Families,

We want to thank all of you who came out to support our PTA meeting Wednesday night. We had some very thoughtful conversations about all the things happening here at Laurel Hill. Our PTA meetings are held monthly. We encourage you all to join us and be part of the wonderful opportunities our organization offer students, teachers, and families!

Your student's official progress report came home yesterday in the Wednesday folder. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your student's teacher should you have questions at any point during the school year about their progress. We encourage families to continue the partnership between home and school for insuring students' success.

We want to remind parents about some Kiss & Ride safety precautions. Please be mindful of our staff on duty who are there to support students with a safe arrival to school. Remember to drive your car as far down as possible to accommodate as many cars being able to fit in the space beyond the crosswalk/fire hydrant. Students are permitted to get out of their cars only after passing the crosswalk. Students are to get out of the cars from the right passenger side. Drivers should remain in the car. In the event you need to exit your car to assist your student, we encourage you to park in an available parking space. Student safety is our first priority, so thank you in advance for adhering to these safety measures.

Have an amazing week!

Sincerely,

Janice Dalton, Principal

Addison Smith, Assistant Principal

Thmeaka Traylor, Assistant Principal

kindness week

Be Kind all week. Here are some ideas to help students show their kindness in their community.

Monday, Feb 12

Be Kind to your School Community. Share kind words with your classmates. Offer compliments to friends to brighten their day. How many compliments can you give in 1 day? ACTIVITY: Pick up a HEART and write a kind note for a classmate, a teacher or school worker. Share why they are important and what makes them special. Drop the heart in the box by the office, and the hearts will be posted on the Kindness Wall at school.

Tuesday, Feb 13

Be Kind to the Environment. Recycle. Refresh. Reuse. Clean up outdoor community spaces. Today is the day to take care of the Earth and be kind to the environment. ACTIVITY: Help Laurel Hill recycle and clean up. Be sure your trash is properly disposed of and there’s no litter.

Wednesday, Feb 14 (Kindness Day)

Be Kind to Classmates and Teachers.  Share a KINDNESS FLOWER with your friends and teachers, reminding them they are special. You can even purchase a flower to take home for siblings, parents or special neighbors. ACTIVITY: Pick up your reserved Flower(s) in the lobby, write a kind note, and deliver them.

Thursday, Feb 15

Be Kind to your Community Helpers. Make a plan to help a neighbor, family member or someone else in your community.  ACTIVITY: Ask a parent/guardian for help to volunteer in your community, lend a hand and make a positive impact. Paint kindness rocks and leave them around your community. Share kind words.

Friday, Feb 16

Be Kind to Yourself: Be kind to yourself. You are worth it! ACTIVITY: Take time to do something that makes you happy today. Be sure to smile. Listen to music and dance. Draw and make pretty pictures that make you smile. Write a list of 5 things that you love about you. Ask a parent/guardian to help you make your favorite food.

Keep the Kindness Going

  • Be Kind to Animals and Pets:Animals and pets provide companionship and joy to many families. ACTIVITY: Ask a parent/guardian for help to show your love for pets by doing something kind and special. Take an extra-long walk with your pet. Give your pet lots of rubs and hugs. Donate old towels or blankets to an animal shelter.
  • Be Kind to Siblings: Brothers and sisters deserve kindness. ACTIVITY: Think of ways to celebrate your siblings and do something kind for them today. Give them compliments. Leave them a kindness note on their bed to show how much you love them.
  • Be Kind to LHES Specials Teachers: What would we do without science, music, art, physical education? School is more fun when you have time to be creative, build things and get active. ACTIVITY: Recognize your Specials Teachers with a kind word, unique drawing or creation or special treat. Show them how important they are to your education.

🚍 Here Comes the Bus

Want to know if your child's bus is on schedule or where the bus is? Here Comes the Bus® is an easy-to-use website and app that enables parents to see the location of their child’s school bus — almost in real time — on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer.

Parents can track multiple buses if their children don’t all ride the same bus; know exactly when children arrive at school or the bus stop; and receive customized text and/or email notifications about bus locations, schedule changes, or delays.

To get started, download the app from the Apple iOS or Android app store. Check out the Here Comes the Bus and Frequently Asked Questions webpages for more information.
