Note from Dr. Sheers

As we approach the Yearbook ordering deadline, I want to emphasize the importance of securing your copy. Since we do not order additional yearbooks, please ensure that you place your order before January 31st!

Important Information

Lost And Found!!!!!
Please be advised that we invite you to visit our Lost and Found area during the dismissal period to retrieve any misplaced belongings. The Lost and Found area is conveniently located within our cafeteria and outside by the playground. Please note that any unclaimed items will be donated to ECHO by January 31st as a charitable contribution. Please collect your belongings as soon as possible to avoid any inconvenience.

Snow Days
For the current school year, FCPS will be returning to its previous procedure for snow days — there will be no virtual learning days when school is closed due to bad weather. During snow days, students may still access Tutor.com, complete any supplemental learning opportunities recommended by their teachers, and view educational programming (available virtually and on public access television channels):

Eleven snow days are built into the existing FCPS calendar. Eliminating virtual learning days will allow us to maximize students’ in-person learning and provide equitable access to instruction and student services.

Distribution of Community Fliers
West Springfield Elementary School offers the opportunity for nonprofit organizations to make their materials available to students and parents. Community fliers can be sent home in student’s backpacks on February 1. Procedures to follow can be found here.

Volunteer with Give Together
FCPS students continue to find incredible ways to serve their community while building Portrait of Graduate skills such as becoming an ethical and global citizen. The school division is excited to collaborate with Volunteer Fairfax for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

Students and families can volunteer on Monday, January 15, at Volunteer Fairfax’s Give Together event. It is designed to engage families with children (ages 5-12) in service learning.  Projects will include a food drive, assembling caring kits for community members who need support, making no-tie fleece blankets for veterans, environmental stewardship, and support for animal welfare.

Students ages 13 to 18 are welcome to serve as teen event volunteers. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

Quarter End, Early Release, and Student Holiday
Thursday, January 25, is the last day of the quarter and a two-hour early release for students. Also, schools are closed for students on Friday, January 26, for a teacher work day. See the complete school year calendar.

Parent Volunteers
WSES is fortunate to have individuals, groups, and organizations who contribute time and energy to students as volunteers. Because student safety is of utmost importance, we ask that our volunteers complete the following prior to volunteering:
