Flint Hill Updates

Good Afternoon Flint Hill Families,

There were lots of opportunities for hands-on learning at FHES this week. Students in 5th and 6th grade used their knowledge of coordinates to create scale models of Washington DC and go on treasure hunts. In 4th grade students began the process of historical fiction writing and guest speakers from 5th grade shared samples of their writing to help students get started. Meanwhile in kindergarten, students heard an important message about kindness, sportsmanship and recess.

Please join us tonight (January 11th) for our next PTA meeting at 7:00 pm. Mr. Dickenson, Mr. Bechtle and Mrs. Rankin will share more about what is happening in our 5th grade classrooms and library. We will meet in-person in the FHES library or join online via Zoom. We hope to see you there!

There are lots of upcoming events and opportunities to be involved at FHES. Dining for Dollars is today at Foster's Grille from 11:00 am - 9:00 pm. Mention FHES with your order and 20% of sales will support the PTA! Also, be sure to check out the registrations for the upcoming skate night and after school camps. You can also leave your mark on FHES with a PTA legacy brick. More information is in the messages and links below.

Lastly, please plan to have your students arrive at Flint Hill before our tardy bell rings at 8:45 am. Doors open for students at 8:35 am. Students who are at school and have time to unpack, complete morning work and join morning meeting are set up for success for the day.

Kindly,

Mr. Montaquila, Principal

Mr. Baker, Assistant Principal

Yearbook Snap! Share your photos!

For the last couple of years, we have asked the community to upload photos to add to our Yearbook. We received LOTS of submissions! While we can’t use every photo in the yearbook, we would love to offer the opportunity for our families to submit photos again.  Our yearbook theme this year is “You Matter”.

Please upload images to our Yearbook Snap shot. Access Code: flinthill24 In order to collect photos, we ask that they are either camera images or cell phone photos without the Live feature attached. If you upload photos and the ending is .HEIC instead of .JPG we are unable to use them in the yearbook.  We look forward to seeing everyone’s photo in the yearbook this year.

Snow Days This Winter

School buses in snow.

For the current school year, FCPS will be returning to its previous procedure for snow days — there will be no virtual learning days when school is closed due to bad weather.

During snow days, students may still access Tutor.com, complete any supplemental learning opportunities recommended by their teachers, and view educational programming (available virtually and on public access television channels):

Eleven snow days are built into the existing FCPS calendar. Eliminating virtual learning days will allow us to maximize students’ in-person learning and provide equitable access to instruction and student services.

PTA Meeting: January 11th at 7:00 pm

Please join our 5th grade team and librarian at our next PTA meeting to learn more about what is happening in our classrooms.

Mr. Bechtle, Mr. Dickenson and Mrs. Rankin will be present to share more about past and upcoming projects and how PTA support has benefitted their grade level and programs.

We hope you will join us!
