Dear Fairview Families,
As the winter season is upon us, we want to take a moment to remind our wonderful Fairview community about some important information regarding winter weather.
Dressing for the Weather : Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the colder temperatures. Encourage them to wear layers, a warm coat, gloves, and a hat to stay comfortable. Classes will continue to go outside for recess and other activities during the winter months. Please remember to label your child's winter layers as this will help us return items to students. Currently our lost and found is overflowing with items without names.
For weather-related updates on delays or closures, FCPS utilizes various communication channels. Parents/guardians receive notifications via email and text. Additionally, official information is shared on FCPS social media accounts (@FCPSNEWS on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram). Residents can also tune in to local radio or TV stations. The primary source for updates remains the FCPS website (https://www.fcps.edu/).

Cafeteria Volunteers
Fairview Elementary School is looking for volunteers to join in the fun in our Falcon cafeteria!
Volunteers will bring students forgotten items, escort students to the bathroom, and help students remember to clean (sweepers, table washers, etc).
If you would like to join in the fun please sign up for any available dates/times you are available.
Any way you slice it we are grateful for you!

Call for Volunteers to Support ZEN Lunch
Beginning last year, Fairview has been able to offer ZEN Lunch to students in grades 4-6 on at least 3 days weekly. ZEN Lunch is an opportunity for students to eat in a calm quiet separate space away from the cafeteria. Students enjoy low lighting and calming music or videos (like the panda cam when that was a thing!). We will be able to continue offering this as an option as possible based on our staffing. We are asking for some support in helping us keep this going and consistently available for students. We are looking for parents that are willing to come to help us host Zen lunch on a consistent schedule, whether it be weekly on certain days, biweekly on a specific day or otherwise. This would require a volunteer to be badged through FCPS. If you are interested, please reach out to Lindsey Wilcox (lrwilcox@fcps.edu) in the main office for more information regarding badging and to discuss scheduling. Thank you for your consideration!
Robinson will host its Rising 7th Grade Parent Night on Monday, January 22 at 6:00 p.m. Parents and guardians of students who will be entering Robinson as 7th graders for the 2024-2025 school year are invited to come and learn about Robinson, the transition to middle school, and the course selection process.
Our lost and found is very full! Do you recognize any of these items? We have wonderful PTA volunteers who tag and hang these items up. Please remind your child to stop by the lost and found on their way to lunch! After a period of time, these items are donated.
Dear Fairview Families,
The PTA has partnered with the school for a Heritage Night. This wonderful event is being planned for Friday, February 23rd but it can't happen without our amazing and diverse communities help. So far, we have had 8 families sign up. We would love to see as many different heritages represented for all of us to learn from so if you would like to participate please take a moment to fill out the following google form: https://forms.gle/kUGEwNr6QrmSUwb79. A flyer and paper copy to participate will come home in folders this week as well. Any questions can be directed to the PTA treasurer, Libby Smith at treasurer@fairviewpta.org.

Dual Language Immersion Program Registration
Registration for the countywide lottery for Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs will open on Monday, January 22. Current pre-K students may apply for the kindergarten immersion program, and current kindergarten students may apply for the first grade immersion programs for the 2024-25 school year. Programs are available in French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish.
Parents/caregivers who are interested may want to attend an informational meeting. Meetings are held at the school site. Check the FCPS events calendar for the most current information. Meetings will begin on Tuesday, January 16.
A virtual meeting hosted by the World Languages Office will include general program information. Access to this virtual meeting will be made available on the FCPS events calendar and the Dual Language Immersion registration site on the day of the meeting.

The FCHD and FCPS are partnering to provide an immunization clinic for new to county students on 25 and 26 January, located at Jackson MS in Falls Church. Times are 11a-6p on 25 January and 9a-3:30p on 26 January.

Tutor.com offers more than help with homework! This on-demand tutoring service also provides a comprehensive range of resources including exam prep for AP, SAT, and ACT tests at no cost to families.
