Glen Forest Families:

The staff at Glen Forest was excited to welcome back your children after Winter Break.  We sincerely hope that you and your families created news memories, celebrated holiday traditions, or simply enjoyed the relaxing and unencumbered time together.  Your students readjusted nicely and we are off to a great start in 2024!

We have many opportunities in the next few months for our families to be engaged with school and their children's learning, and we hope that you take advantage.  The success of your children is greater when the home and school work in tandem.  Thank you for your continued partnership!

Message From PTO President

Happy New Year!

We hope everyone has had a safe and fun filled winter break! The PTO was very busy prior to winter break thanks to the generosity of our community and members! We were able to support our school by:

-Providing baked goods for the school sponsored holiday story event
-Spread cheer through taking a hot coco and treat cart around to staff the week before break
-Fulfil staff wish lists by purchasing gingerbread house supplies, indoor recess games for cold weather, laminating and other teacher supplies, games to help further lessons and much, much more!

These acts supported our entire school community! Special thanks to the care givers who volunteered their time to help make this happen!

Our next meeting is Wednesday January 10th at 730pm. Please use the following link-https://myfcpsk12.zoom.us/j/93477400889

Meetings will then move to the last Tuesday of the month at 730pm (virtual). This will start Tuesday, Jan 30th at 7:30 pm.

The PTO by laws limit officers to no more than two years of service. We will be holding elections in April for the following offices:

Secretary- The Secretary keeps track of votes and information shared at our meetings. The Secretary assists in recording and organizing membership lists

Vice President- The Vice President and President work to share the load of organizing school events and supporting fundraisers. The Vice President reaches out to community businesses to support our school through donations and restaurant nights to help reduce the financial burden on our families.

President- The President works with the school administration and staff to align the goals of the PTO with Glen Forest. The President helps to see those goals through by fundraising and organizing activities such as clubs, fall picnic, bingo night etc

The purpose of the two year term limit is to allow as many families as possible to bring their voice to the PTO to make Glen Forest the best it can be! We are all working caregivers that care about our children's education and want to see the best we can bring out of Glen Forest Elementary. Please consider running and supporting your child's education.

Please email glenforestpta@gmail.com with interest, questions or concerns.

Thank you for your support. Here's to a wonderful 2024.

Katie McGrorey
Glen Forest PTO President

Building Painting in Underway

The painting project is underway and is anticipated to be finished by the end of January.  The crew comes in during the evenings.  The walls are being painted white, the trim royal blue, and the base trim throughout the hallways is being replaced with black.  The hallways definitively look barren, and we can't wait to display student work upon completion of the project!  As for summer programs, we anticipate that we will not be hosting, although there has not been a confirmation. You will continue to be posted.

Attendance Competition is Back!

Once again, we are competing against Beech Tree for the highest attendance percentage rate!  Each week, during the month of January, whichever school wins will earn a reward.  This week, if Glen Forest wins, we will have a schoolwide Dance Party at the end of the day on Friday!  Thank you in advance for your support as we strive to decrease our Chronic Absenteeism rate, per our SIIP (School Innovation and Improvement Plan) that can be found at the links in the following section.

Please reach out to our school social worker or family liaison. If your child is not feeling well, please refer to the When Should I Keep My Child Home? webpage for guidance.

23-24 SIIP (School Improvement & Innovation Plan)

Our SIIP is now posted on our school website at this link. We have 3 goals (1 reading, 1 math, and absenteeism) which are directly aligned to the new FCPS Strategic Plan. Visit this site to learn more about the Strategic Plan.

A team of staff members started to analyze data this past July, and these findings are what helped drive our SIIP plan. Region 2 leaders also provided input and feedback.  The plan will be monitored every quarter.
