Cirruculum Night

Greetings Major Families and Friends,

Happy New Year! I hope this letter finds you well and that you had a wonderful holiday season. As the second part of the school year begins, I want to extend a warm welcome back to all our students and families. I am confident that we will continue to experience growth, celebrations and success for our Majors.

This week was full of activities such as our athletic events and curriculum night and it was great seeing so many of you.  Below you will find many other upcoming events and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Let’s continue to work together to make the most of the new year.   I wish you a fantastic start to 2024!

With Major Pride and Love,

Principal Rogers

MVHS MCJROTC Wing Dedication

We are having a special ceremony at Mount Vernon High School, where we will be dedicating the MCJROTC Wing in honor of Col. Walter DeHoust and 1st Sergeant Willie Medley.  This event, scheduled for January 31, 2024, at 6:30 PM in Bratten Hall, located at 8515 Old Mount Vernon Road, Alexandria, VA 22309, serves as a tribute to their exemplary service and commitment to our community and nation.

We will be commemorating the lasting impact of Col. DeHoust and 1st Sgt. Medley during our dedication ceremony, and a reception. Your presence will be a valuable addition to our gathering and a fitting honor to the memories and contributions of these distinguished individuals.

Please RSVP by January 20, 2024, to ensure your place at this momentous event.  We look forward to your participation in celebrating the dedication of the MCJROTC Wing and the remarkable lives of Col. Walter DeHoust and 1st Sergeant Willie Medley.

Opioid Awareness and Community Conversation

Conversation to Raise Awareness of Fentanyl and Other Drugs

In this video, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid interviews the Fosters, a family who tragically lost their son Cayden to a half pill of fentanyl mistaken for Percocet. This heart-wrenching yet eye-opening video of their experience is essential to raise awareness among parents/caregivers and students about the dangers of fake painkillers.

Please join Dr. Reid on Wednesday, January 10, at 6:30 p.m., at Edison High School for a community conversation about opioid awareness. You may register to attend. However, registration is not required; it is simply for space considerations.

The evening’s program is appropriate for parents/caregivers and students in grades 6-12. All attendees will receive free REVIVE! Narcan training during the event and learn about support services currently available within FCPS and Fairfax County.

FCPS’ website also has resources to help you to start the conversation and additional support for families struggling with substance misuse.
