Flint Hill Updates

Good Afternoon Flint Hill Families,

Welcome back to the beginning of a new year! It was a joy to see so many students and staff eager to begin 2024 with enthusiasm for learning. This week, classes have been focused on resuming projects, learning and lessons as well as reteaching routines and procedures with students.

This week, Mrs. Chang has been excited to visit K and 1st grade classes to begin the planting of our tower garden! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to explore outdoor learning indoors during the cold winter months. We look forward to watching the students make observations of their seedlings over the next few weeks.

Please join us next week on January 11th for our next PTA meeting. Our 5th grade team and librarian will share more about what is happening in our classrooms and library. Mr. Bechtle, Mr. Dickenson and Mrs. Rankin will be present to share about past and upcoming projects and how PTA support has benefitted their grade level and programs. We hope to see you there!

Also, as we return to our typical routines, please plan to have your students arrive at Flint Hill before our tardy bell rings at 8:45 am. Doors open for student at 8:35 am. Students who are at school and have time to unpack, complete morning work and join morning meeting are set up for success for the day.

Happy New Year!

Mr. Montaquila, Principal

Mr. Baker, Assistant Principal

Yearbook Snap! Share your photos!

For the last couple of years, we have asked the community to upload photos to add to our Yearbook. We received LOTS of submissions! While we can’t use every photo in the yearbook, we would love to offer the opportunity for our families to submit photos again.  Our yearbook theme this year is “You Matter”.

Please upload images to our Yearbook Snap shot. Access Code: flinthill23 In order to collect photos, we ask that they are either camera images or cell phone photos without the Live feature attached. If you upload photos and the ending is .HEIC instead of .JPG we are unable to use them in the yearbook.  We look forward to seeing everyone’s photo in the yearbook this year.

Snow Days This Winter

School buses in snow.

For the current school year, FCPS will be returning to its previous procedure for snow days — there will be no virtual learning days when school is closed due to bad weather.

During snow days, students may still access Tutor.com, complete any supplemental learning opportunities recommended by their teachers, and view educational programming (available virtually and on public access television channels):

Eleven snow days are built into the existing FCPS calendar. Eliminating virtual learning days will allow us to maximize students’ in-person learning and provide equitable access to instruction and student services.

PTA Meeting: January 11th at 7:00 pm

Please join our 5th grade team and librarian at our next PTA meeting to learn more about what is happening in our classrooms.

Mr. Bechtle, Mr. Dickenson and Mrs. Rankin will be present to share more about past and upcoming projects and how PTA support has benefitted their grade level and programs.

We hope you will join us!
