Principals' Message

Dear Freedom Hill Community,

Welcome back for a new year! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break. We are "back to work" with lots of fun and learning tomorrow morning. We look forward to seeing all of our Eagles back at school!

As a new calendar year begins, we want to say a big thank you to all who made our holiday season so successful. We had many parent volunteers, staff members, room parents, PTA members, and more who volunteered, organized, and supported our staff and students through a variety of events. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and time!

Wishing you a very Happy New Year.

In partnership,

Nicholas Zapadka, Principal

Eric Kopacz, Assistant Principal

This week, we are focusing on Optimism. You expect the best from the future and work to achieve it.

“When the world says, ‘Give Up’, hope whispers, ‘Try it one more time’.”

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • When were you optimistic in a situation? How could that situation have turned out differently if you weren’t optimistic?
  • Do you believe that hope and optimism are “contagious”?

What is your dream for your future self?  What will you have to do to achieve that goal?

Our Freedom Hill dads/male caregivers are invited to bring their student(s) to Freedom Hill for a pizza dinner and to learn about our Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) volunteer program. We will be holding it this year on January 22 at 5:30. We have made some tweaks this year based on community feedback (including having half-day signups that may be more manageable for our working D.O.G.S). Even if you are a returning participant, we'd still love to have you out. Planning to attend? Please complete this quick form so we have enough pizza!

Thank you David Hay for coordinating this great program as our "Top Dog" again this year.

Snow Days This Winter

For the current school year, FCPS will be returning to its previous procedure for snow days — there will be no virtual learning days when school is closed due to bad weather.

During snow days, students may still access Tutor.com, complete any supplemental learning opportunities recommended by their teachers, and view educational programming (available virtually and on public access television channels):

Eleven snow days are built into the existing FCPS calendar. Eliminating virtual learning days will allow us to maximize students’ in-person learning and provide equitable access to instruction and student services.
