Dear Freedom Hill Community,
We hope all enjoyed a restful Thanksgiving break! Tomorrow we are back to school as learning resumes through the December holiday season. The last month of the calendar year is always a busy one at Freedom Hill. Please keep your eye on our upcoming events (through this newsletter and from your classroom teacher) for ways to be involved during this exciting time. The first will be our Mathnasium Night this Friday. We expect a great event with much deep thinking. We hope to see you there.

On October 18th, I held the full time AAP referral information meeting for parents. If you missed it, or just want to review it, the link to the video is attached here.
If you are a parent of a 2nd-6th grader, and are interested in referring your child to be screened for full time AAP services, you will need to submit the follow things to Tara Fredericks by December 15th:

The Winter Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA) will be taking place at Freedom Hill from 12/5-12/12. This is a content-based assessment for 3-6 grade students in math and reading. The assessments will start around 9:30 each morning so please have your child arrive on time. To learn more information about the Virginia Growth Assessment, please visit this website. If you have any questions about the VGA, please email Mr. Kopacz.
We ask that your family try their best to avoid appointments and absences on testing dates:
There’s just a few weeks until Winter break starts, but that’s plenty of time to enjoy these fun events!
ATTEND MATHNASIUM @ FHES
On Friday, December 1st, we’ll be hosting Mathnasium of Tysons in the cafeteria for a fun-filled evening of math games for students from 6-7PM. No purchase necessary to attend! This is a great event to attend with friends and play games together. We need just a couple more volunteers to arrive at 5PM and learn how to run their assigned game/activity, and then help students play the game/activity during the event from 6-7PM. Please volunteer here to help make this event successful. If you have older siblings in middle or high school that need volunteer hours, we would love to have them help too! DONATE ON GIVING TUESDAY
This Tuesday, November 28th is National Giving Tuesday. Please consider supporting the PTA by becoming a member, volunteering your time and talents, or through a monetary donation. Donate online through Givebacks here or through your employer using the PTA EIN of 541437681, or drop off a check to Freedom Hill PTA in the front office. DINE OUT AT LEDO’S PIZZA
Plan to join other FHES families either (or both!) Tuesday, December 5th and Wednesday, December 6th from 4-9PM for our next Family Dinner Out at Ledo’s Pizza of Falls Church, located at 7510 Leesburg Pike (near Trader Joe’s). A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the PTA. Thank you Camille for planning this!
SUPPORT MARSHALL HIGH SCHOOL’S CHRISTMAS TREE SALE
If you’re planning to purchase a Christmas tree, consider visiting the Marshall High School Christmas tree sale! They have a variety of Christmas trees on the school's front lot that have all been freshly cut. All proceeds support the student-athletes. The student-run sale is ongoing and runs through Sunday, December 17th, or as supplies last. Stop by Sundays from 12-6PM, weeknights from 5:30-8:30PM, and Saturdays from 10AM-7PM.
REGISTER FOR A BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY
Registration opens this Wednesday, November 29th at 9AM for your student to try one of the below classes. Classes will run from January 8th through March 8th; before school classes run 8:10-9:10AM and after school classes run from 4:15-5:15PM. Register for the classes HERE by December 12th. A flier will come home with your student this week. Limited financial aid opportunities are available for those who qualify. Thank you Ross Camara for organizing so many exciting options!
