November 10, 2023

Happy Friday Fairfax,

The first quarter has officially ended, and grades are finalized. The excitement of a new quarter beginning is the opportunity to reflect and adjust. We encourage you to work with your scholar, your student's teachers, and our counseling team to reflect on Quarter 1 progress and make a solid plan for Quarter 2. Our goal is to support every student with a plan for success.

We have so much to celebrate in this first quarter. 740 students have perfect attendance, we have increased our schoolwide overall daily attendance, and we have decreased our number of students who are tardy. We gave 550 academic letters to honors students. We are gearing up to recognize our "Lions on the Rise" and "Portrait of a Graduate" nominees. We have recognized over 600 students with PAWS-itive referrals.

The Fairfax Theater Department opened Romeo and Juliet last night and this production was an amazing display of talent in a dynamic stage setting. Our field hockey team headed to the state semi-final, and we were elated to give them the ultimate tunnel send off on Thursday. The football team will take on Edison HS tonight @ Edison. The Science Olympiads engaged in virtual competition this week and it is always exciting to see the tower building, coding, and robotics tasks they engage in. Our AVID students headed to William and Mary and University of Richmond for a day of college fun. Our Academy Theater students went to The Signature Theater for a showing of Rag Time and were so inspired.

November is always a great month to show gratitude. I am thankful for our students, our staff, and our community who are dedicated to making Fairfax High an amazing place.

In partnership always,

SignatureTeacher Tie-dye

World Languages Teachers L-R: Kate Tiffany, Mary Blanton, Josine Jones, Rose Jenkins, Nathalie Coyle, and Rodney Lopez.

Our teachers had a great time making Tie-Dye shirts during the teacher work days. The World Languages Team showed school spirit by wearing them on Friday. Special thanks to Digital Arts Teacher, PJ Naber, for designing the shirt and facilitating the event. We had a lot of fun!

Thank you, Voters!

bond gif

Thank you to the Fairfax citizens who supported the 2023 Bond Referendum. Some of the money from the bond vote is expected to fund the next phase of our school's construction project. Roughly 67% of those voting in the 2023 election supported the $435 million bond referendum, continuing a long history of school bond approvals in Fairfax County.

Stay engaged as we build our future. Keep up-to-date on construction and capital improvements across FCPS by visiting our Capital Improvement Project webpage.

Please Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

Impact Aid

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available online in SIS ParentVUE. If you have not already filled out the form online, we will provide paper forms during Lion Time classes on Friday, November 10. Please be sure to return paper forms by Friday, November 17. The electronic form will continue to be available in SIS ParentVUE until January 2024.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important, because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

Please watch this video and visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page for more information.

Need to Register for ParentVUE?

Learn how to activate your SISParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey.

Technical support for using ParentVUE or completing the survey online is available by submitting a Parent Support Request ticket. Select SISParent in the Application dropdown menu and enter Federal Impact Aid Survey under Issue Description. Or, call the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS).
