A note from Dr. Goodloe
Dear Charger Families,
We are looking forward to seeing you and many of our future Chargers tonight at our home football game versus Centreville HS to celebrate Chantilly Pyramid Night. We encourage students from our feeder elementary and middle schools to attend the game and show their school spirit by wearing their school colors and spirit wear. We can't wait to hear our elementary choral students perform, see the Little Charger Dancers and welcome our MS band students to sit with our Mighty Marching Chargers. There may be a few surprise appearances by our mascots, too. Don't miss this fun community event! We are all connected! Admission for students wearing their school spirit wear is free with a paying adult. Please note that middle and elementary students need to attend with a supervising adult and no backpacks, outside food or drink, or water bottles are permitted.
As we continue to strengthen our connections in our Charger community, I want to thank our Chantilly School Counselor Team for planning and hosting a fun and positive event this week for our students during lunches. Students and staff had the opportunity to paint rocks to share messages of kindness, affirmation, and support with our community (pictured below). We are grateful to our counselors for Leading the CHARGE and continuing to identify fun ways to connect with kids and build CONNECTION!
Please be sure to take a look at the Charger Headlines below for additional information, updates and resources. I look forward to connecting with you at Chantilly very soon.

Federal Impact Aid Survey Now Online
FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. To make it easier, the form is now available online in SIS ParentVUE.
Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
Once logged in to SIS ParentVUE, click “Online Packets” in the top right corner. Then, select “Federal Impact Aid Survey.” Get more information.

National Honor Society Membership Application Deadline
10th-12th grade students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher received a message in their fcpsschools.net email this week with an invitation to apply for membership in the National Honor Society(NHS) at Chantilly. The membership application includes three 250 word responses, student resume, and submission of the $25 NHS membership fee through Myschoolbucks. Continued membership in NHS and the receipt of a NHS Graduation Cord requires students to maintain a 3.5 GPA, demonstrate leadership and character, and complete a minimum of 25 hours of service each year of membership. All membership hours must be submitted through X2Vol and indicate that they are for NHS hours. An induction ceremony will be held in January 2024 for all NHS Seniors. Supporting Your Child’s Mental Health
Children go through a lot of changes, and it can be hard to tell if their behavior is developmentally appropriate or if they could benefit from mental health support. It’s important to talk to your child and pay attention to their actions, especially these warning signs:
- Increased irritability, hyperactivity, energy, and/or aggressive behavior.
- Excessive sadness, hopelessness, or worries.
- Loss of appetite, or significant weight gain or loss.
- Lack of sleep or too much sleep.
- A decline in grades, school avoidance, or attendance concerns.
- Alcohol or drug use.
- Withdrawal from activities and/or friends and family.
- Thoughts of harming themselves or others.
If you notice any of these warning signs or feel your child may be experiencing a mental health challenge, help is available. All Fairfax County public schools have at least one school counselor, school psychologist, and school social worker.
Please reach out to one of these staff members to discuss your concerns and identify resources. Call your school or visit their website for staff members’ contact information. Find additional information to support your child’s wellness.
If you or someone you care about is experiencing a mental health crisis such as thoughts of harming themselves or others, please take action right away. Call 988, go to the nearest emergency room, or contact the Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health Emergency Services at 703-573-5679.
No Cost Therapy for High Schoolers
High school students can access virtual mental health services at no cost through an FCPS program with Hazel Health. Hazel Health therapists are licensed and also trained in teen-specific challenges.
Students can be referred by a guardian or designated staff member and participate in weekly video therapy sessions. The therapists will work with students until they achieve their therapy goals, or they can help connect the family with long-term mental health services in the community if needed.
