A note from Dr. Goodloe
Dear Charger Families,
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of Chantilly HS to ensure that it is a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for all. I am constantly inspired by the care, commitment, and compassion of our Chargers.
This week it was energizing to connect with students and families at events like our Celebracion Latina, hosted by our Fuerza Latin club in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. The celebration brought together native Spanish speakers, as well as English and Spanish language learners to share food, games, and dancing. It was great to learn the game Loteria, similar to Bingo, from our students.
Our Charger Volleyball teams and families hosted our Dig Pink event in partnership with Oakton HS to raise awareness and funds in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We had a large crowd of spectators for all three home volleyball games and much support through the sales of spirit wear and baked goods.
Finally, I ended my week by checking in with students and connecting with our SEALS (Student Equity Ambassador Leaders) to reflect on the week's events and discuss future opportunities to engage our entire Chantilly community on the topics of connection, inclusion and belonging. Chantilly will host the SEALs from all of our FCPS high schools next week and I am excited to partner with our student leaders throughout the coming months to further elevate student voices in our school.
Student Early Dismissal
We recognize that at times students need to leave school early to attend to appointments and personal matters. You do not need to come into the main office to pick up a student. Please contact the student's subschool by no later than 9:30 AM of an early dismissal to ensure your child will be ready to dismiss on time. Notification received later than 9:30 AM or no notice will result in delayed dismissal.
Please follow these steps to ensure your student is dismissed on time.
- Provide a written excuse OR leave a message with the student’s sub school including date, time, reason for the early dismissal and phone number for verification.
- Students MUST always check in with their sub school before 8:10 a.m. to have an Ehall pass created for them. Parents will be contacted to confirm check-out if the student misses the 8:10 a.m. deadline.
- Students must always check in with the sub school and verify they have received Ehall pass prior to leaving the school building.
Please visit our attendance page for more information.
Chantilly Pyramid Night - Football game on October 20
We will hosting our first Pyramid Night of the year on October 20 at the home football game versus Centreville HS. We encourage students from our feeder elementary and middle schools to attend the game and show their school spirit by wearing their school colors and spirit wear. Admission to the game for students from our pyramid schools is free with a paying adult.
Please be sure to take a look at the Chargers Headlines below to keep up to date with deadlines and access important resources.
I look forward to connecting with you at Chantilly very soon.

Digital Citizenship Week is October 16 - 20, 2023!
Over 10 years ago, Digital Citizenship Week started to highlight the importance of helping kids, families, and teachers navigate our 24/7 digital world. During this time, media and technology have changed dramatically. There have also been big shifts in the ways we teach and learn in today's classrooms.
Digital Citizenship Week is a great time for school communities to start, renew, or double down on their commitment to engage students in learning important digital citizenship concepts and skills so they become safe, ethical and responsible citizens. FCPS has materials to support families on their Digital Citizenship webpage, including a course to help guide a conversation between parents and teens.
Chantilly High School invites you to join us as we explore a new topic each day.

10th-12th grade students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher received a message in their fcpsschools.net email this week with an invitation to apply for membership in the National Honor Society(NHS) at Chantilly. Students who wish to be considered for membership must complete the required membership tasks by 11:59 PM on November 9, 2023. The membership application includes three 250 word responses, student resume, and submission of the $25 NHS membership fee through Myschoolbucks. All membership hours must be submitted through X2Vol and indicate that they are for NHS hours. An induction ceremony will be held in January 2024 for all NHS Seniors. Federal Impact Aid Survey
This year, families will have access to the Federal Impact Aid Survey in electronic format via ParentVUE. Our IT teams have worked with the Online Registration System to help digitize the Impact Aid Survey. All parents with a ParentVUE account will be able to complete the survey online using their computer at home. For families unable to complete the survey on-line, a paper form will be available. Also, families who do not complete the online application by the requisite deadline will be provided with a printed survey form. We strongly encourage families to fill out the online forms to reduce the paper form management.
Background on the Impact Aid program
The Federal Government owns property in Fairfax County, and those properties are removed from the local tax base. FCPS is eligible to apply for Federal Impact Aid funds as reimbursement for the lost tax revenue. Federally connected students are children of active-duty uniformed services personnel, children who live on federal property or in subsidized federal housing, and children whose parents are employed on eligible federal properties.
Important dates:
-
October 16: Federal Impact Aid Survey electronic data collection in ParentVUE opens.
-
October 31: Federal Impact Aid Survey paper forms are available.
Supporting Your Child’s Mental Health
Children go through a lot of changes, and it can be hard to tell if their behavior is developmentally appropriate or if they could benefit from mental health support. It’s important to talk to your child and pay attention to their actions, especially these warning signs:
- Increased irritability, hyperactivity, energy, and/or aggressive behavior.
- Excessive sadness, hopelessness, or worries.
- Loss of appetite, or significant weight gain or loss.
- Lack of sleep or too much sleep.
- A decline in grades, school avoidance, or attendance concerns.
- Alcohol or drug use.
- Withdrawal from activities and/or friends and family.
- Thoughts of harming themselves or others.
If you notice any of these warning signs or feel your child may be experiencing a mental health challenge, help is available. All Fairfax County public schools have at least one school counselor, school psychologist, and school social worker.
Please reach out to one of these staff members to discuss your concerns and identify resources. Call your school or visit their website for staff members’ contact information. Find additional information to support your child’s wellness.
If you or someone you care about is experiencing a mental health crisis such as thoughts of harming themselves or others, please take action right away. Call 988, go to the nearest emergency room, or contact the Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health Emergency Services at 703-573-5679.
No Cost Therapy for High Schoolers
High school students can access virtual mental health services at no cost through an FCPS program with Hazel Health. Hazel Health therapists are licensed and also trained in teen-specific challenges.
Students can be referred by a guardian or designated staff member and participate in weekly video therapy sessions. The therapists will work with students until they achieve their therapy goals, or they can help connect the family with long-term mental health services in the community if needed.
Learn how to opt your students into this service.
🥗 New School Lunch Menu Options
FCPS' Food and Nutrition Services team will be rolling out improvements to the menu that better reflect the diversity of our student body and focus on fresh, healthy food. Learn about FCPS’ new menu options.
⚠️ Know Our Security Terms
FCPS uses specific terminology to specify the actions school staff and students should take to ensure safety in a variety of situations. It is important for staff, families, and students to understand what the different terms mean and how they impact school operations.
Watch this video to learn more about the definitions of the security terms: lockdown; secure the building; and stay put, stay tuned. If students, staff, or community members have a safety concern at school (that is not an immediate emergency), they should submit a tip to the FCPS Safety Tipline. In an emergency, please call 9-1-1.
🎓 College Fair and Postsecondary Virtual Events
High school students and their families are invited to attend the annual FCPS College Fair and virtual postsecondary events. The College Fair will feature admissions representatives from more than 250 colleges and universities from across the United States and abroad. The fair will be held at George Mason University’s Eagle Bank Arena on Sunday, October 15, 4-7 p.m.
Postsecondary Virtual Nights will be held on Monday, October 16, and Tuesday, October 17, 5-8 p.m. The virtual event will feature workshops related to the college admissions process, financial aid, and other postsecondary educational opportunities.
Students are highly encouraged to register in advance for these events.
