Food must also be made ready to eat as we have no way to cook at the school. Additionally, we could use two volunteers to help set up. Slots are available below. Digital Citizenship Week
This week is Digital Citizenship Week. As a community we need to work as one to instill the best practices to keep our students safe, responsible, and respectful while online. Click Here for a family resource (grades K-6) that overviews the daily question and activity. Thank you for your support!
Roar Run
Roar Run will be held Friday, October 20 outside on the black tops and the field. The times are as follows:
2:00pm - 2:30pm: Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grades
3:00pm - 3:30pm: Grades 4, 5, 6, and Special Education
Parents are allowed to attend the Roar Run if the event remains outside. In the event of rain, the Roar Run will be moved into the gym on Friday, October 20, and parents will not be allowed to attend (capacity guidelines and safety govern this decision). A decision will be made the night before.

Potomac Music
Potomac Music is sponsoring the second annual Fall Fest. This event will have live music, family friendly games, food and drinks from Hometown Grill and other local vendors. The goal of this event is to promote local businesses in the Lorton area, support music education and the arts, and to give back to the Lorton community. We'd love for you to join us!
Fall Fest is a fundraiser for the Lorton Community Action Center to benefit low-income individuals, senior citizens, and families residing in Fort Belvoir, Lorton, Newington and other portions of southeast Fairfax County. Please see the flyer below. We'd appreciate your support!
Kids in Today's Society
Kids are ever evolving and changing, but we are here to help parents keep up a little bit. Kids today have very different challenges than the kids of twenty years ago or more, so we need to know how to talk to them and help them through it all. “Kids in Today’s Society” will discuss the current problems our kids are facing, such as social media, narcotics, mental health concerns, and other issues. This presentation will have information on how to talk to them, help them with these tough times, and the resources available from Fairfax County. The earlier you have the tough conversations, the easier it will be later.

📚 Lexia Parent Night: Learn About Literacy Support
FCPS funds Lexia for all elementary and middle schools to use as part of their literacy instruction. Lexia is a computer-based program that supplements classroom instruction to help students develop literacy skills. It also provides teachers with the data to identify students who need additional support, and the ability to know which specific concepts and skills to prioritize. Attend an information night to learn more about Lexia and how FCPS is integrating it into the classroom. Parents/caregivers will also get tips for supporting their students at home.
Information nights will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on:
-
Wednesday, October 18, at Thoreau Middle School (Cafeteria).
-
Thursday, October 19, at Edison High School (Auditorium).
Register to attend or submit a question in advance.
Integrating Lexia into the literacy curriculum aligns with the Virginia Literacy Act, FCPS’ Equitable Access to Literacy, and Strategic Plan Goal 3, which aims to have all students reading on level by the end of third grade.
