October 6, 2023

Hello Justice HS Students, Families, and Community Members:

As we close out week 7 of the 2023-2024 school year and prepare for next week’s PSAT/SAT Day, I’m proud to share that Justice’s most recent Class of 2023 SAT scores reflect improved and surpassing pre-pandemic performance!

The average SAT score for FCPS students in the class of 2023 was 1181. Read more about the class of 2023 Fairfax County SAT data.

This past week, we had AVID students go to the IB College Fair where they got to learn about over 100 colleges and meet with admissions representatives.  We also went to American University for an information session, tour and met some of our Justice alumni who now are students to American University.

Monday, October 9th is also Indigenous People's Day, which was first proposed during a United Nations conference in 1977 when members of the community reported facing discrimination. It was instituted in Berkeley, California in 1992 and has continue to grow in popularity over the years. The diversity and inclusion in our school community is such a beautiful thing for our students, parents, and staff!

The Work Awareness and Transition (WAT) Class is Looking for Community Business Partners!

The Work Awareness and Transition (WAT) course is looking for community business partners! The goal of the WAT course is to prepare high school students with disabilities for employment through career awareness, exploration, preparation and training. In addition, students will have the opportunity to assist with work tasks, projects and jobs within the school building and participate in a community-based and/or school-based work experience as part of the course.

Would you like to give back to the community? Are you in a position to offer work-based learning internship opportunities to Justice High School students? Whether you own/run a small business or work for a large company, we’d love to connect to see how our students can help out your organization while continuing to develop their workplace readiness skills for future competitive employment.

If you are interested in hosting student interns or would like more information about becoming a community partner, please contact Margaret Autry, Employment and Transition Representative, at 703.824.3919 or mmautry@fcps.edu.

SHOW YOUR WOLFPACK PRIDE - RED BAG DONOR COMPETITION!

The Wolf Shack is the PTSA-sponsored in-school store and resource pantry for the Justice HS community. In the Wolf Shack, we provide free essential resources for all students - from food for them and their families to personal care toiletries to academic supplies to after-school snacks. We served more than 1,000 students and distributed nearly 100 food staple bags to Justice Families during September.

Food for Neighbors is one of the Wolf Shack's biggest donors. Food for Neighbors has a Red Bag Donor program across area middle and high schools: Five times a year, you fill a Red Bag (dropped off at your door by Food for Neighbors) with food from a suggested grocery list. Drivers pick up the filled bag right from your front door and volunteers sort the food to distribute to local schools the same day!

The more Red Bag Donors Justice has, the more food for The Wolf Shack. Right now we are in a friendly competition to increase donors - Current numbers are:

  • Falls Church High School - 173 donors
  • Justice High School - 48 donors
  • Annandale High School - 11 donors

We are gaining on Falls Church! There have been 68 new donors since we last reported the above numbers, but we don't yet know to which schools they belong. Justice needs more donors to win!

So let's show some Wolf Pack Pride and sign up to be a red bag donor today! https://www.foodforneighbors.org/red-bag-program/. Get those numbers up and GO Wolves!

Donations for the Wolf Shack can also always be brought to PTSA meetings, dropped in the front office of Justice High School (labeled PTSA Wolf Shack) OR purchased from our Amazon List and delivered directly to JHS. Please continue to donate food, essentials and/or money (https://www.justicehsptsa.org/wolfshack/).
