A note from Dr. Goodloe

Dear Charger Families,

It has been a wonderful week full of connections at Chantilly High School. It has been a pleasure to see our Chargers in action in the classroom, after school in our many clubs and at athletics events including our home Freshman and JV football games and cheer competitions held this week at South Lakes High School.

Our first principal's coffee held earlier this week was a success! We had great attendance and conversation around the successful opening of the school year, changes to schedules and communication, as well as sharing feedback on where we can continue to grow together as a school community. I will be hosting family engagement opportunities throughout the school year and will vary the times and formats to allow for more community members to attend. We value your feedback. I encourage you to share your observations, suggestions, questions and celebrations with me here.

I also had the opportunity to meet some new families at our first PTSA general membership meeting of the year Thursday evening. We are appreciative of the partnership with our PTSA , as well as all of our Booster Clubs who provide volunteers and generous support to our students, staff and the community.  I encourage you to join and get connected by following the links included above and JOIN! Thank you for helping us Lead the CHARGE!

Homecoming Week

There is definitely a lot of excitement in the air as we prepare for Homecoming week next week. Please be sure to check with your students about spirit days, hallway decorating by class, and purchasing tickets during lunches so that you are in the know.  I am looking forward to the opportunity to connect with you at our community events next week including the parade, Taste of Chantilly and the football game on Friday, October 6 and celebrating with our students at the dance Saturday, October 7.

Save the Date! Pyramid Night - October 20

We will be hosting our first Pyramid Night of the year on October 20 at the home football game versus Centreville HS. We encourage students from our feeder elementary and middle schools to attend the game and show their school spirit by wearing their school colors and spirit wear. Admission to the game for students from our pyramid schools is free with a paying adult!  More information will be shared after Homecoming about this fun event.

Please be sure to take a look at the Chargers Headlines below to keep up to date with deadlines and access important resources.

I look forward to connecting with you at Chantilly very soon.

Amy T. Goodloe, Ed.D.

Principal, Chantilly HS

Student Late Buses

Did you know that there are late buses available for students who stay after school on Mondays and Thursdays each week?  The runs and stops are different from a student's regular bus assignment and leave Chantilly between 4:40 and as late as 5:30. We encourage students to stay after school for activities and extra support from teachers and access bus transportation as needed. If you would like your student to arrive home more quickly, you may want to arrange for an alternate form of transportation.

We All Belong at School - Attendance Matters!

It’s Attendance Awareness Month. Each one of us is unique, and every student matters. If your student is having a difficult time attending class, please speak with a trusted adult at school. There are solutions.

Watch this video to see how everyone belongs at school. Visit our Attendance webpage for resources on attendance. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

Social and Emotional Learning Screener Offered in October

One of the ways FCPS supports the mental wellness of all students is the SEL Screener.

The screener is offered to all students in grades 3-12 in October and again in February or March. It addresses skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships with adults and peers, and making responsible decisions.

The SEL Screener also helps students evaluate their school community’s efforts to make them feel valued, included, and supported. Screener data is used to create the learning, experiences, and environments students need to be successful. Key updates to the screener this year include:

  • Different versions for students in grades 3-5 and 6-12.
  • Fewer topics with more questions to provide schools and families with more data to support planning.
  • Additional questions aligned with FCPS’ commitment to educational equity.

SEL Screener results are sent to families via postal mail. Families who wish to opt their child out should complete the opt-out form in the Annual Notice packet or in SIS ParentVUE.

For more information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage or contact your child’s school.

Please note that the SEL Screener differs from the anonymous Fairfax County Youth Survey.

Chromebook Health Check

This week, our Chargers completed a Chromebook Health check to make sure their device has the latest software updates. This is especially important for our students who will be taking the digital PSAT/NMSQT on Wednesday, October 11. Please have your student complete the health check at home using these directions if they did not complete the update at school.  Thank you so much for your support!

WTOP Player of the Week - Avery Chow

Each week, WTOP selects one student athlete to be featured on air and online as our Player of the Week. Last week’s (9/22) WTOP Player of the Week was Avery Chow of Chantilly High School in Chantilly, Virginia.

Chow is a senior at Chantilly and has played football for the school since his freshman year, lining up at positions all over the field. Last year, he was selected as an honorable mention in the Concorde District’s All-District team as a linebacker.

This season is Chow’s first as a full-time running back for the Chargers. In his first four games this season, Chow has racked up 676 yards and 9 touchdowns on the ground, according to MaxPreps. During the first two weeks, Chow tallied a staggering 451 rushing yards and 6 TDs. He’s reached the 100-yard rushing mark each game this season.
