Atom Nation
A quiet week for home events but a many of our programs hit the road and showed a lot of grit and determination! The results may not be on the winning side but the athletic programs are continuing our drive of building something special at Annandale. The energy and attendance at our events are up and our student-athletes are starting to see and feel the support from our community. We encourage everyone to get out and support your Atom athletes!

Atoms Athletics Recap
Determination and grit was on display this week in Atoms Athletics! A quick recap from the week is below.
Atoms Golf played their final match of the season at Mount Vernon on Thursday. The Atoms played one of their better matches of the year and now prepare for the National District Tournament at Greendale on September 25.
Atoms Field Hockey played their final non-district and only game of the week on Monday vs Colonial Forge. The Atoms played hard but came up short against a strong Colonial Forge team. The Atoms hit the field twice next week in big National District games vs Hayfield and Lewis (Senior Night).
Atoms Volleyball had two matches this week. First traveling to Edison where they fell to the Eagles on Monday evening. They continued their road trip with a stop at Mount Vernon Wednesday night. The Atoms played a great match taking the Majors to five sets but falling short in the fifth set. The team serves it up twice this week with a short trip to Falls Church Tuesday and a home slate vs Hayfield Thursday.
Atoms Cross Country ran this past Wednesday at Burke Lake in another tune up for National District Meet. Both teams continue to see growth and personal best times set by many runners. They hit the trail again Tuesday evening at Franconia Park.
Atoms Football were on the bye this week but return to the field Friday evening for Homecoming vs Bishop Ireton.
Atoms Cheer unfortunately had to postpone the Atomic Cheer competition set for today due to the weather this weekend. A make up date is being discussed but at this time no date has been set.

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help
Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year, starting with fall sports Football and Volleyball. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of the particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. Concessions not your thing? We need drivers to pick up Chick-Fil-A or to drop the bags back off (slots are on the sign up). Or help out with parking control or spirit wear sales. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters and we would love parents to come to meetings and learn how. Watch out for the Booster Blast and come to the next scheduled meeting, all are welcome! Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!

Special Ask... Atoms After School Snack Bar
As many of you know, the Atoms Athletic Boosters has been able to open our concessions stand after school for your children to grab a bite to eat prior to heading to their activities. If your schedule allows, please consider volunteering 1 day a week or even just 1-2 days a month. The hours are 3:15-4:15. This is a rare benefit in Fairfax County that we are able to provide for our kids, but we can’t do it without parent help. Please contact at odessapmurray@gmail.com or (703) 626-9647 if interested in helping.
Partners for Safe Teen Driving
Included in Grade 10 Health & PE is one quarter, or 30-36 hours, of in-classroom driver education. To get your driver’s license in Virginia, you must successfully complete, or pass, the classroom portion of driver education. You must also attend a 90-minute parent-teen traffic safety program, Partners for Safe Teen Driving, or PSTD, with a parent/guardian. Annandale High School is hosting five (5) PSTD presentations this school year, one each quarter and two during the fourth quarter. They are free to students enrolled in Health & PE 10 at Annandale HS and begin at 6:30pm in the auditorium. You must attend with a parent/guardian, arrive ON TIME as the door is locked at 6:30pm, and you must remain the duration of the presentation for your attendance to be verified. Choose a date convenient for you and your parent/guardian. You may attend a session outside of your Driver Education quarter.
