Atoms Athletics Recap

Continued growth and success was the highlights of the week for the Atoms! A quick recap from the week is below.

Atoms Golf held senior night for their lone senior Jason Reid Monday evening vs TJ. The Atoms played their two matches vs arguably the top two teams in the district in TJ and Edison. The Atoms continue to show growth and improvements with each match! The Atoms now prepare for the National District Tournament on September 25.

Atoms Field Hockey fell in their two non-district games this week, playing hard but falling short to Meridian and Chantilly but came away with a game that truly helps them. On Wednesday, the Atoms moved to 2-0 in district play with a dominating 5-0 win over Falls Church behind 3 goals by Ripley Hotaling. The Atoms hit the field for their only game of the week vs Colonial Forge Monday evening at Annandale.

Atoms Volleyball continues to play with high energy and grit but unfortunately fell short in their two matches this week vs Lewis and TJ. The Atoms found themselves in 2-0 hole early vs Lewis but dominated the third set before falling 26-24 in the 4th set to end the match. The Atoms battled all night in a back and forth contest vs TJ, before falling in three sets. The record doesn't reflect how competitive and close this team is in every game! They look to get back on track this week as they serve it up vs Edison and Mount Vernon.

Atoms Cross Country had a successful Monroe Parker last weekend. The girls team had strong showings from several girls as they continue their preparation for the National District Meet in October. The boys team continues to hit their goals with several boys hitting their personal best times of the year so far. Both teams hit the trail this week vs Edison at Burke Lake.

Atoms Football got their first win of the year and Coach Bagot's first win as the head football coach at Annandale. The Atoms offense put up some highlight plays, including a long touchdown pass from Lukas Wuhrer to Thyrese Afuso to put the Atoms up early. The defense was stifling all night coming up with multiple turnovers to keep the Jags off the scoreboard. The Atoms are off this week as they prepare for Homecoming vs Bishop Ireton on September 29.

Atoms Cheer host their annual Atomic Cheer Invitational Saturday at Annandale. Schools from all over Fairfax County will be attendance so make sure to stop by and check it out!

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help

Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year, starting with fall sports Football and Volleyball. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of the particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. Concessions not your thing? We need drivers to pick up Chick-Fil-A or to drop the bags back off (slots are on the sign up). Or help out with parking control or spirit wear sales. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters and we would love parents to come to meetings and learn how. Watch out for the Booster Blast and come to the next scheduled meeting, all are welcome! Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!

Special Ask... Atoms After School Snack Bar

As many of you know, the Atoms Athletic Boosters has been able to open our concessions stand after school for your children to grab a bite to eat prior to heading to their activities. If your schedule allows, please consider volunteering 1 day a week or even just 1-2 days a month. The hours are 3:15-4:15. This is a rare benefit in Fairfax County that we are able to provide for our kids, but we can’t do it without parent help. Please contact at odessapmurray@gmail.com or (703) 626-9647 if interested in helping.

Partners for Safe Teen Driving

Included in Grade 10 Health & PE is one quarter, or 30-36 hours, of in-classroom driver education. To get your driver’s license in Virginia, you must successfully complete, or pass, the classroom portion of driver education. You must also attend a 90-minute parent-teen traffic safety program, Partners for Safe Teen Driving, or PSTD, with a parent/guardian. Annandale High School is hosting five (5) PSTD presentations this school year, one each quarter and two during the fourth quarter. They are free to students enrolled in Health & PE 10 at Annandale HS and begin at 6:30pm in the auditorium. You must attend with a parent/guardian, arrive ON TIME as the door is locked at 6:30pm, and you must remain the duration of the presentation for your attendance to be verified. Choose a date convenient for you and your parent/guardian. You may attend a session outside of your Driver Education quarter.
