Ms. Wiley's fifth grade class
Principal’s Message
Tiger Families,
We are looking forward to seeing you at Back to School Night on Thursday. This event is intended for adults/parents. We also realize that not everyone has access to child care; if at all possible, we ask that adults only attend. We also understand if you need to bring your child.
The schedule is as follows:
5:50: Doors open (Lower Door 1 and Upper Door 1)
6:00 – 6:30: Optional Admin Session with Ms. Trout and Mr. Ickowski (cafeteria)
6:30 – 7:05: Classroom #1 Session
7:05 – 7:30: Classroom #2 Session
Together,
Ms. Trout and Mr. Ickowski
Engaging Questions to Ask Your Students
What's something interesting you noticed outside the classroom windows today?
If you were the teacher, what subject would you like teaching most and why?
Tell me about something that challenged you today. How did you handle it?
If you could choose a new book for the school library, what type of book would it be? (Encourage your child to talk to Mrs. Dueno about this!)
What's something you'd like to learn more about that wasn't covered in class?

Upcoming Lockdown Drill
During the week of September 18th, we will conduct our first lockdown drill of the school year at Terraset. Virginia schools are required to practice lockdown drills two times a year. FCPS lockdown drills do not include any type of active shooter scenario training, they are instruction and classroom based.
Additional information on our lockdown drill program to include parent tips and FAQs can be found on the Emergency Planning and Crisis Response web page. After reviewing this content, you should discuss the value of these safety drills with your child.
Keeping our school safe and secure for all students and staff involves the participation of the entire school community, and we thank you for your help to keep our school safe.

Health Information and Emergency Care Forms
The Health Information Form (HIF) (SS/SE -71) Health Information Form and the Emergency Care Information form (SS/SE-3) Emergency Care Information provide valuable information regarding student health conditions. These forms are critical in the early identification of students who may need healthcare support in the educational environment. Along with the development of Healthcare Plans (HCP) and Action Plans, the Public Health Nurses (PHNs) utilize the information contained in the HIF to develop teaching strategies for FCPS staff in order to meet the requirements of Regulation 2104 Health Services-School Health Related Needs.
Digital Resource Consent Form
Our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here.
Included on this page is also a link to where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to Lauren Boyd if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.
South Lakes Football Games
Dear Families,
Reminder that if your student is attending a Varsity Football game on a Friday night at a FCPS High School, they must be accompanied by an adult who supervises them for the duration of the event. If your students attempts to attend without at least one adult, they will be turned away at the ticket booth. Also, there are no backpacks/food/drink/athletic equipment allowed in the stadium. We love when our future high school students attend our games and hope they are good representatives of our community. Lastly, at the conclusion of the game, all spectators are expected to leave in a timely fashion.
Thank you from South Lakes Activities Team
