A note from Dr. Goodloe
Dear Charger Families,
What a great week to be a Charger! We are starting to get a bit of a taste of fall with cooler temperatures and school is definitely in full swing. Many of our Chantilly clubs held interest meetings this week. We encourage all of our students to get connected and find activities and people they enjoy. We also began Charger Connect (formerly CT) this week. Our Charger Connect period on A days provides students opportunities to meet with teacher, catch up on work, or take a break during the school day. You can read more about it below.
Welcome Coffee - September 27, 8:30 AM
As we start the new school year, please join me and members of our staff for coffee and conversation on Wednesday, September 27, at 8:30am. All parents and caregivers are welcome! As part of Blue Star Welcome Week, we also want to welcome our military affiliated families to our school community. I hope you will plan to attend. Please RSVP so that we may plan for space and refreshments. I look forward to connecting with you.
Asha Jyothi - 5k Fun Run/Walk - Sunday, September 17
Chantilly HS is grateful to our community partner Asha-Jyothi for their ongoing support of innovation and student programs in our Chantilly Pyramid community and beyond. Chantilly HS benefitted from the generous donation from Asha-Jyothi that funded the implementation of the Innovation Lab in our school library.
We encourage you to get involved to support the work of Asha-Jyothi by registering to participate in the annual 5k Fun Run/Walk on September 17. Registration fees from Chantilly affiliated staff, students and families will be donated back to the school to support our programs. Register here

Digital Resources Consent - Please review:
At CHS, teachers will use a variety of digital resources to help students learn during the 2023-24 school year. These digital resources have been checked and approved by Fairfax County Public Schools. Please provide your consent for your student to use these resources through the Parent Digital Consent System. https://digitalconsent.fcps.edu/ispb/is01/r/pdcp/login?session=3019565079401
This parental consent will only need to be completed once a year and will apply for all your students' courses.
We value your feedback. Share your observations, suggestions, questions and celebrations with me here. I look forward to connecting with you at Chantilly very soon.

What's New: Charger Connect (formerly CT)
Charger Connect (CC) is an opportunity to build connections and relationships. SEL lessons will be implemented throughout the school year. When there is no scheduled CC (SEL) lesson on the A/B calendar, Charger Connect will function as what is formerly known as “Charger Time” with the support of E-Hall Pass. Students can get help from the teacher they are assigned to, get help from a teacher in another classroom using E-Hall Pass, have a 40 minute study hall in the classroom they are sitting in or assigned to, take a mental break, catch up on homework, retake a quiz/test in the classroom or the new Testing Lab (library), use Tutor.com, attend a club meeting using E-Hall Pass, access peer tutoring using E-Hall Pass, or go the library using E-Hall Pass. We are excited to offer many options for student engagement and support during Charger Connect.
FCPS Issued Laptop Health Check
Please remember to bring your charged FCPS issued device to CC6 on Friday, September 22. All students will be completing a Health check. This will be especially important for any 10th and 11th grade students that will be taking the PSAT on October 11 at Chantilly. All PSATs must be taken on an FCPS laptop.
Important Forms for Caregivers to Complete:
- ✔️ Caregiver Checklist: Have You Completed These Important Forms?
During the first weeks of the year, caregivers receive many forms to complete. Several of the most important ones are below:
-
Digital Resources Consent: Some FCPS-approved digital resources require parent/caregiver consent before they can be used by students. Find the list of resources which require consent on the Digital Resources - Parent Consent page. This page also includes directions on how to provide permission.
-
Student Rights and Responsibilities: This document explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses. Parents using SIS ParentVUE will be prompted to sign the document when they log in to that platform. A printable version of the document with a signature sheet is available on the SR&R webpage.
-
Opt-Outs: The Opt-Out Booklet is online or available from your child’s school. It contains information on:
- Parents’ rights to inspect and consent or opt out before their child participates in certain surveys.
- Parents’ rights to inspect instructional materials.
- Rules regarding student records and disclosure of student information (including photo/video of students) and the right to opt out.
Parents’ rights to opt out of the Social Emotional Learning Screener, physical exams not required by state law, career or social emotional counseling, Library Equity Access Pass Project, and/or Tutor.com.
Each school pyramid has a Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist (SAPS) assigned to provide substance abuse prevention, education, and intervention services. Substance Abuse Prevention Specialists are part of the FCPS Office of Student Safety and Wellness. Like school social workers, school psychologists, and school counselors, we do not provide treatment services, but we support students while they are in the buildings. AFTER CHECKING THE NARCAN BOXES IN THE AED BOXES, PLEASE LET ME IF YOU NEED ANY ADDITIONAL BOXES OR IF YOUR SUPPLY IS UP TO DATE.
Key roles of a Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist:
- Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug education for students, parents, staff, and Community
- Intervention services upon violation of the Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook or suspected substance use involvement.
- Assessing a student’s level of substance use and, if appropriate, making referrals to the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board for additional services or other community resources as appropriate
- Group and individual interventions for students and in addition prevention services for students, staff, parents, and the Fairfax County community
- Building positive relationships with students to provide support and encouragement

Recognitions
Congratulations to Brittanye Mohrbacher! She has been recognized as an employee who shows that FCPS Cares.
My child has had Mrs. Mohrbacher as her History teacher and Debate coach for 2 yrs. Last year, Mrs. Mohrbacher stepped up to lead our Debate and Model Judiciary teams, resulting in multiple state and national awards for our Chantilly community. Mrs. Mohrbacher's previous experiences and passion for civic engagement are reflective in her U.S. Government courses. She engages all learners using contemporary teaching methods. Her Global classroom idea was loved by all, as a result the government team-lead has embraced the new Project-Based Learning AP curriculum and Global Classroom Projects to link our students with others aboard. Overall, she is a calm and compassionate educator committed to the success of FCPS students.
This information is posted on the September 2023 FCPS CARES webpage, accessible at https://www.fcps.edu/news/fcps-cares-september-2023 . Thank you for your excellent service to FCPS and best wishes for continued success.
