Atoms Athletics Recap

A HOT third week of the regular season just wrapped up for the Atoms. A quick recap from the week is below.

Atoms Golf had their match and practices canceled to due to high heat. They tee it up Monday at Pinecrest for senior night vs TJ.

Atoms Field Hockey played hard against a very good Langley team. The team battled throughout, never giving up. The Atoms lace it up again in the Chargers Invitational at Chantilly this weekend. They pick up next week with a short trip to Meridian Monday evening and return to Annandale vs Falls Church Wednesday.

Atoms Volleyball fell to Justice Wednesday evening but their energy and effort was off the charts! They lost in three sets but one or two bounces in each set and the Atoms win in three sets. The Atoms played with everything they had and look forward to getting back on the court Monday evening as they host Lewis.

Atoms Cross Country had the week off but run the Monroe Parker event today at Burke Lake and face Hayfield on Wednesday evening at Franconia Park.

Atoms Football traveled to Hayfield last night and had a rough evening as they fell to the Hawks in a shortened game due to weather. The Atoms put a few good drives together but couldn't put the ball in the endzone. The team returns home for a Thursday evening kickoff with rival Falls Church at 7:00pm.

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help

Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year, starting with fall sports Football and Volleyball. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of the particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. Concessions not your thing? We need drivers to pick up Chick-Fil-A or to drop the bags back off (slots are on the sign up). Or help out with parking control or spirit wear sales. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters and we would love parents to come to meetings and learn how. Watch out for the Booster Blast and come to the next scheduled meeting, all are welcome! Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!

Special Ask... Atoms After School Snack Bar

As many of you know, the Atoms Athletic Boosters has been able to open our concessions stand after school for your children to grab a bite to eat prior to heading to their activities. If your schedule allows, please consider volunteering 1 day a week or even just 1-2 days a month. The hours are 3:15-4:15. This is a rare benefit in Fairfax County that we are able to provide for our kids, but we can’t do it without parent help. Please contact at odessapmurray@gmail.com or (703) 626-9647 if interested in helping.

Partners for Safe Teen Driving

Included in Grade 10 Health & PE is one quarter, or 30-36 hours, of in-classroom driver education. To get your driver’s license in Virginia, you must successfully complete, or pass, the classroom portion of driver education. You must also attend a 90-minute parent-teen traffic safety program, Partners for Safe Teen Driving, or PSTD, with a parent/guardian. Annandale High School is hosting five (5) PSTD presentations this school year, one each quarter and two during the fourth quarter. They are free to students enrolled in Health & PE 10 at Annandale HS and begin at 6:30pm in the auditorium. You must attend with a parent/guardian, arrive ON TIME as the door is locked at 6:30pm, and you must remain the duration of the presentation for your attendance to be verified. Choose a date convenient for you and your parent/guardian. You may attend a session outside of your Driver Education quarter.
