From your Academy Admin

Fairfax Academy families,

We hope all our students have settled into their classes and are enjoying exploring projects in our lab spaces. We have had a blast getting to know our students in the halls and starting to feature them on our social media. Don’t forget to follow us.

Next week, we look forward to connecting directly with our parents. If your student attends one of our feeder high schools, please stop by from 5:30-6:15pm for our open house format Back to School Night. Teachers will be in their rooms and the Academy Support Team will be in the commons for questions. Fairfax High School families will follow the FHS schedule from 6:30-9pm to visit classes, including Fairfax Academy programs.

Looking forward to a fantastic September!

Mrs. Cook

Academy FAQ: What do you do when your shuttle hasn't arrived?

Ever wondered what your student should do if they're waiting for a shuttle bus and it hasn't arrived?

One student in the group should go to the main office (whether they are at their base school or at Fairfax) and tell the front desk that the bus hasn't come yet. School staff can contact Transportation to find out what's going on and help students get on their way.

You can learn about shuttles and more in this year's Information PacketFor questions, contact Sarah at starvid@fcps.edu.

Academy FAQ: Lanyards and Parking

Reminder: Commuter students need to wear their lanyards while at Fairfax. This is for the safety of our students! Need a temp for the day? See the security desk up front or the Academy office in E119. Need a replacement? They cost $5 and are available in E119.

Is your student driving a car to Academy? They need an Academy parking pass, even if they have one from their base school!  Parking enforcement is ongoing and students without parking permits are subject to ticketing or booting. Your student needs a completed forms packet and a copy of their driver's license. Academy parking permits cost $67 per year, which is waived if you have purchased a permit at your base school. Come to E119 to get a permit. *Midday (5th/6th period) permits are sold out.

Just some reminders: Academy students must park in Academy marked spaces. Carpool passengers must have signed transportation agreements on file at Fairfax Academy listing their carpool arrangements.

Questions? Call the Academy office at 703-219-2226 or email Sarah Tarvid at starvid@fcps.edu.

Academy Logistics: Attendance

Did you know? Academy attendance is separate from base school attendance. Base schools do not automatically report absences to Academies. A parent or guardian should report absences to ensure accurate attendance records. (Students may not report their own absences, even if they are over 18.)

To report an Academy absence or tardy:

  • Call 703-219-4060 and leave a message. (Please don't leave early dismissal notifications on this line - call the Academy office directly and speak to a staff member.)
  • Or use the Academy attendance form online: https://fairfaxacademy.fcps.edu/form/attendance-form

Attendance questions? Call the Academy office at 703-219-2226 or email Sarah Tarvid at starvid@fcps.edu.
