A note from Dr. Goodloe
Dear Charger Families,
Wow, what a great second week we have had at Chantilly HS, culminating today with our class of 2024 Panoramic picture, schoolwide Pep Rally, and home opener football game against Woodson HS this evening. We also were excited to welcome visitors from Seoul, Korea to our Chantilly Academy Korean program this week. I continue to be impressed by the ways in which our staff and students are connecting both inside and outside of the classroom and the support and care that our Chargers show for one another as we settle into the routines of the school year.
Back to School Night Resources
It was a pleasure to connect with so many families at our annual Back to School Night earlier this week. Our Chantilly Faculty values the partnership with our families to foster student success. You can find additional information related to Back to School Night including a welcome video from our administrators, videos from FCPS School Board members, and additional resources on our webpage here.
Student Services Updates
We are delighted to welcome our new sub school 4 counselor Sierra Alexander. She will be joining the Charger family on September 5 (although she is a Charger alum so really she is just coming home). She will be working with students with last names Tr-Z and is looking forward to meeting her new students and colleagues. Welcome Sierra!
LS/CC for students taking an academy, online campus or who have a full day waiver:
For attendance purposes, all students must be assigned to a location for LS and CC. Student Services is in the process of assigning LS sections for academy, online campus and waiver students and thus, students should check SIS and plan to attend the assigned LS effective September 6.
Get involved!
Much like we encourage our students to get connected with the people and activities they enjoy by joining clubs, participating in service, or athletics, we also want to ensure our families are engaged as well. Please take a moment to review opportunities to join our school support organizations such as PTSA , Athletic, Band and Drama Boosters or choose to volunteer in places like the library. Thank you for your partnership as we Lead the CHARGE together.
We value your feedback. Share your observations, suggestions, questions and celebrations with me here. I look forward to connecting with you at Chantilly very soon.

World Languages Credit Exam
FCPS intends to transition the World Languages Credit Exam to a digital format through an external vendor that assesses linguistic proficiency. FCPS will be piloting a digital language proficiency assessment during SY 2023-24. When students register for the 2023 World Languages Credit Exam, they will be offered the opportunity to participate in the pilot assessment for the following languages: ASL, Amharic, Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Telugu.
Students who are selected to participate in the pilot will take both the FCPS World Languages Credit Exam and the pilot assessment. Credit will only be awarded from the results of the FCPS World Languages Credit Exam. Students who are selected to participate in the pilot will be notified after registration closes on October 5, 2023, and will receive additional information in October/November regarding the logistics of the pilot assessment. Information regarding the pilot will be communicated to selected students through the student and parent contact information on record in SIS.
2023 Student Rights and Responsibilities
FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. In late June, the School Board approved changes to the SR&R for the 2023-24 school year. Updates include a revision of dress code expectations, bystander expectations for students witnessing harmful or unsafe behaviors, bullying, and substance abuse responses. Read Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid’s letter to families regarding the SR&R.
Parents/caregivers should talk to their child(ren) about expectations for this school year. Also, please log in to SIS ParentVUE and sign to acknowledge your review of the SR&R, or sign and return the signature sheet to your child’s school by Friday, September 29
Parental Permission to Use Digital Resources
Some FCPS-approved digital resources require parent consent before they can be used by students. Find the list of resources which require consent on the Parent Consent webpage. This page also includes directions for providing permission.
Each digital resource used in FCPS has had an instructional and technical review. Information about the educational technology tools approved for use within FCPS can be found in the online Digital Ecosystem Library.
💻 Chromebook Tips
High school and secondary school students are receiving a new Chromebook this year. These devices feature larger screens than previously issued devices and battery life that easily lasts the school day.
Encourage your student to visit the following helpful links to:
If your child prefers to use their personal laptop, make sure it meets our minimum requirements. Students may access our student Chromebook FAQs (FCPS Google login required) for more information.
If your student runs into any issues while using their Chromebook, please have them reach out to their school’s tech team for support.

Procedures for Parents/Caregivers and Students
Prearranged Absences
- The student will bring a note from the parent/guardian to the sub-school office OR parents will call the sub school office, stating the reason for the prearranged absence request and date(s) of the requested absence(s).
- Part-day and full-day absences except illness, death in family or medical appointments must be submitted at least two days prior to the absence.
- The sub-school office will give a form to the student to take around to his/her teachers. Teachers will sign and write comments, if they choose. Teachers will record date(s) of absence and provide a list of assignments that will be missed. The student will bring the form back to the sub-school office.
- The sub-school principal will review teachers’ comments, if any. The sub-school assistant principal may call parents to share teachers’ comments, etc.
Check-in/Tardiness - Unexcused Tardy Policy
-
Students are to be marked tardy if they are not in the classroom when the bell finishes ringing.
- Students arriving at school unexcused, between 8:10 and 8:15, may report directly to class and the teacher will mark them unexcused tardy.
- Students arriving after 8:15 must check in at the sub-school regardless if it is excused or unexcused.
- Students will be issued a check-in pass.
Early Release / Check-out
- Parents are required to furnish a written excuse to OR call the student’s sub school including date, time, reason for the early dismissal and phone number for verification.
- Students MUST always check in with their sub school before 8:10 a.m. to have an Ehall pass created for them. Parents will be contacted to confirm check-out if the student misses the 8:10 a.m. deadline.
- Students must always check in with the sub school and obtain an EHALL PASS prior to leaving the school building.
- When a student is sent home or a doctor’s attention is required, the SUBSCHOOL OFFICE will be notified at the end of the day. The school nurse will issue a check-out pass to the student. The student MUST check out of school through the clinic when leaving the grounds because of illness.
- The online attendance form can NOT be completed for “day-of” checkouts.
Parking at CHS
Parking on the campus of Chantilly High School and Chantilly Park (west side of Stringfellow Rd ) is strictly enforced with the use of assigned parking spots verified with required display of current year permits. Violators will be ticketed with student accounts accumulating fines. Vehicles will also be tagged for towing upon a repeat offense. Signs notifying drivers of the parking restrictions are posted at each entrance. Visitor spots are monitored and are strictly for temporary school visitors who check in at the main office.
