Dear Fairfax Academy Families,
We are nearing the end of the first week of school and it has been exciting to meet your students and get to know them.
I know this email is going to be long and have lots of logistical info in it! Stay with it till the end - it has a lot of information in it you will need. In this email, we will provide some information about shuttles, parking, lanyards, and other very common questions. We are also here to help! Here's who to contact if you have questions:

Reminder that Back to School Night is September 12. If your student comes to Fairfax Academy from another school, your time is 5:30-6:30 p.m. If your student comes to Academy and FHS is their base school, your time is 6:30-9:00 p.m.

Student Schedule Concerns
Got questions about your student's schedule? Here's how to work those out:
- Start with your base school counselor.
- Then contact Luke Donald at ladonald1@fcps.edu or 703-219-2384.
Transportation to Academy: Shuttles and Parking
Is your student riding a shuttle bus to Academy? Shuttles are arriving and departing from Door 1 of FHS. Students riding shuttles will enter the building through Door 1 and go to their classes from there.
What should your student do if their shuttle is late? If your student is still at their base school, one student in the group should go to the main office and report the late shuttle to staff. If your student is at Fairfax, they should do the same - visit the main office near Door 1 and report the late shuttle. Then your student should go back to the shuttle stop so they don't miss it when it arrives!
Is your student driving a car to Academy? They need an Academy parking pass! We'll start parking enforcement late next week. Your student needs a completed forms packet and a copy of their driver's license. Academy parking permits cost $67 per year, which is waived if you have purchased a permit at your base school. Come to E119 to get a permit.
Just some reminders: Academy students must park in Academy marked spaces. Daily parking passes are available in the Academy office.

Academy Logistics: Lanyards
For the safety of all students, Academy students will wear an ID attached to a lanyard while in the building. Lanyards help identify students arriving to Fairfax Academy from other schools, and help us identify your student in case of emergency. You must wear your lanyard at all times while on the Fairfax Academy campus. Replacement lanyards cost $5 - see us in E119 for a replacement.
Academy Logistics: Attendance
Did you know? Academy attendance is separate from base school attendance. Base schools do not automatically report absences to Academies. A parent or guardian should report absences to ensure accurate attendance records. (Students may not report their own absences, even if they are over 18.)
To report an Academy absence or tardy:
- Call 703-219-4060 and leave a message. (Please don't leave early dismissal notifications on this line - call the Academy office directly and speak to a staff member.)
- Or use the Academy attendance form online: https://fairfaxacademy.fcps.edu/form/attendance-form

Paperwork Required for Academy
You should have received a packet in the mail with an information packet and some forms. Haven't received it? Here's an electronic version:
Please review the information packet and return the completed forms packet (including the transportation agreement, if you travel to Fairfax Academy from another school). These are due by Friday, September 15.
