Important Back to School Info

This is the most important information in our Newsletter today.

School Day Schedule

Monday, AUGUST 21, is the first day of school. The doors open at 8:55 AM for students to enter the building.  The school day begins at 9:10 AM when students are expected to be in their classrooms, seated and ready.  Daily announcements and instruction will begin promptly at 9:10 AM.  Student dismissal begins at 3:55 PM when students begin to move to their dismissal location.

  • Students should not arrive to school prior to 8:55 AM
  • Families are invited to walk their children to class on the first day of school.
  • Students who enter the building on or after 9:10 AM are considered tardy and must be walked in by an adult and signed in.   We ask that all students able to ride the bus or walk to school do so to avoid a back-up in the Kiss-and-Ride loop.

PUP

Getting to and From School

Starting this school year, we will be using a system called PickUp Patrol  to help us track dismissals. PickUp Patrol (PUP) will save us a great deal of time here in the office, reduce classroom interruptions and provide you with a convenient way to make changes to your child’s dismissal plans.

Most importantly, it will help us ensure that our students are safely dismissed to their correct after-school destinations.

Use the PickUp Patrol app for:

DISMISSAL CHANGES: Submit changes to your child’s regular dismissal plans.

For example:

  • Your child normally rides the bus but is getting picked up today.
  • Your child is staying after for an activity.

How it works:

Your child's regular dismissal plan is entered into the system. This is called their Default Plan. Whenever you have a change to the Default Plan, you’ll submit it through the PickUp Patrol app. When the change is submitted, the school will be notified, and your child’s teacher will relay the change to them.

Getting started:

  1. REGISTER: Today, August 17th, you should have received a registration email with a link to set up your account.
  • The web app is free to parents, and you can use it from your smartphone or computer.
  • For easy access, follow the instructions for how to add it to your phone’s home screen (PUP is not accessed through the app stores).
  1. ENTER DEFAULT PLANS: Once you register, log into your PickUp Patrol account by Sunday, August 20th, to confirm your child’s default dismissal plan. It’s important that you complete this step so that we can accurately dismiss your child.

Notes, emails or phone calls will be accepted for changes for the next few weeks, but starting August 31, all changes should be submitted through PickUp Patrol.

  • Busses – Your ParentVUE account will show your child’s bus route number, the stop location, and estimated pick-up and drop-off times.  With your ParentVUE account, you can activate the Here Comes the Bus app for tracking your child’s bus.  You will need the FCPS school district code of 28982.

You should arrive at your bus stop ten minutes before your scheduled pick-up time since schedules may vary slightly from day-to-day.

  • Kiss and Ride – This year we are using name tags for Kiss and Ride which can be picked up in homeroom classes.   When using Kiss & Ride, you must enter from Burke Centre Parkway and use Door 2.
  • Walkers – Walkers enter at the playground, Door 5.  All kindergarten students must be met at the door by the parent/guardian.

Helping Prepare Young Children for School

Families play an important role in helping children prepare for kindergarten and having a successful school year. Visit these pages to learn how to actively support your kindergartener:

It’s Not Too Late to Register for Kindergarten!

If your child will be five years old by September 30 and has not been registered for kindergarten yet, check out this easy-to-follow five step process

Please contact Sarah Fuller, Registrar, at 703-503-3703 for additional information.

Support Your Child’s Success

Access your student’s attendance records, grades, and assignments at any time with SIS ParentVUE. Caregivers should receive an activation code when they register their child.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. Access SIS ParentVUE by using an app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android devices.
