Arrival and Dismissal

Please talk to your child before school starts on Monday (August 21) so that they know how to get home from school ahead of time. If possible, follow the same routine on Monday that you would every other day of the year.

  • General Information
    • Students can enter the building starting at 9:00 AM.
    • Children should be in class ready to start their school day by 9:20 AM.
    • Dismissal starts at 3:55 PM.

All Walkers: Use Door #2

    • All Kindergarteners must be met and walked home with a family member who is 16 years of age or older.
    • 1st – 6th walkers should walk home immediately after leaving the building.
    • Children absolutely may not leave as a ‘walker’ to then meet a parent at a car parked in our neighborhood.
    • If you must travel by car, you will need to utilize the Kiss & Ride line. Door #4 is only staffed until 9:20 AM. If you arrive after that time, please PARK, bring your student to our main entrance (Door #1) and sign them in at the front office (please do not drop them off in our bus loop in front of the school.)  Note: Fairfax County regulations prohibit parking within ten feet of a driveway.

Kiss & Ride:  Use Door #4

Our Kiss & Ride line operates behind LSES (Door #4) – turn into our side parking lot and follow the car line/instructions.

For Arrival:

    • Children exit on the right (passenger) side of the vehicle.
    • Drivers are to always remain in the car. Please do not pass other cars in the Kiss & Ride line at any time.
    • Kiss & Ride is only staffed until 9:20 AM. If you arrive after that time, please bring your student to our main entrance (Door #1) and sign them in at the front office.

For Dismissal:

    • Drivers are to always remain in the car. Your LSES Kiss & Ride Car Tag must be displayed on the dashboard.
    • Please pull forward as directed by staff.  Please do not pass other cars in the Kiss & Ride line at any time.
    • Students will be called by number when parents arrive in the Kiss & Ride line to pick them up.
    • Kiss & Ride is only staffed until 4:15 PM.

Once students are dismissed at 3:55 PM, the wait is typically no longer than 15 minutes.

Bus Riders:

Key Items for our Families

  • Back to School Forms. On the first day of school, all students will receive a Take Home Folder with critical back to school information.  We ask that parents complete the forms if they haven’t done so electronically and return those forms in the same folder to the classroom teacher.
  • News You Choose: Lorton Station uses News You Choose to distribute the parent newsletter every week.  News You Choose is an electronic communication platform that allows community members the ability to select what information they want to receive and how often from individual schools, the School Board office and members, departments, programs, and PTA/PTO and booster organizations.  Subscribers can change their settings or unsubscribe at any time.  Make sure we have your current email so that we can send you updates.  Or, you can click here to subscribe!
  • eNotify:  Parents of Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) students are automatically enrolled to receive e-Notify Communications. FCPS central offices and schools use this system to communicate emergency, delayed opening and school closing information, attendance, and other essential communications. Contact information from the student information system are uploaded to the eNotify system.  It is important that parents keep their child’s emergency contact information up-to-date. To update, email Wenjie Yao wyao@fcps.edu, fill out an emergency care card, or update through your SIS ParentVUE account.
  • SIS ParentVUE: Parents can access information about their child’s attendance, class performance, and manage emergency communication and FCPS forms via a SIS ParentVue account.  Click here for more information.  If you need an activation code, please call the school at 571-642-6000.
  • Schoology /SKOO-luh-jee/: Schoology is FCPS' Learning Management System.  In Schoology, parents will find teacher schedules, information about the curriculum and other important information.  It’s also a great platform for teachers to communicate with families.  Parents will receive information about accessing classroom sites from the classroom teacher.  To learn more, click here.

Food Services and Nutrition

I am excited to announce that Lorton Station has been selected to participate in the USDA Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) meal program in the school year 2023-2024. CEP allows schools to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all students without collecting household applications for free and reduced-price meals.

CEP General Information:

  • CEP is a USDA program; eligibility is based on direct certification for free meals at individual FCPS schools.
  • All students at Lorton Station automatically receive no-cost breakfast and lunch every day of the school year (even if the student would not qualify for free meals).

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications, Additional Benefits, and Related Information

  • Parents/guardians of students attending Lorton Station do not need to submit an application for free and reduced-price meals to receive free meals.
  • Parents/guardians of students attending Lorton Station are HIGHLY encouraged to submit a free and reduced-price meal application because:
    • Student(s) may wish to receive a free or reduced-price notification letter that qualifies the student(s) for additional benefits; and,
    • The FCPS Consent to Share Information for Other Programs will continue to be utilized and is included in the free and reduced-price meal application process.
  • Parents/guardians of students attending Lorton Station must still submit a household application for the free and reduced-price meal benefit and be approved in order for students to receive the free or reduced-price meals benefit. https://www.myschoolapps.com.
  • Students transferring from Lorton Station to another school within FCPS will need to submit an application for the free and reduced-price meal benefits to FNS unless the student is eligible for free meals via direct certification.

Direct Certification information:

  • The VDOE and the FCPS Homeless Liaison’s Office communicates information regarding directly certified students to FNS.
  • Direct certification for free meals is based on:
    • Family enrollment in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP);
    • Family enrollment in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program (TANF);
    • Foster children; and,
    • Homeless children.

Transportation and Safety

Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following Kiss and Ride procedures and being patient while waiting for your children’s buses.

If a student’s bus is delayed, parents may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. Contact the Transportation Office at 703-446-2150 with any additional questions. For any concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.

To make sure you receive email messages about bus delays, update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE.

Annual Opt-Out Notice

Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights

Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.

In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available — a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents/caregivers with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice, because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.
