I am pleased to announce the appointment of Cynthia Hawkins to the role of Assistant Principal at Chantilly HS effective August 1, 2023. Cynthia will serve as the administrator for Sub School 3 (last names Matj-Raja) and will directly supervise the Science and Fine Arts departments.

Cynthia Hawkins comes to us from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology where she has served students, staff, and community as an Assistant Principal since 2019. Originally from Akron, Ohio, she holds a B.A. in History with a minor in Psychology from Ohio University, a master's degree in Teaching and Learning from The Ohio State University, and a master's in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia. She moved to the DC area with her husband in 2002 and began her teaching career as a Social Studies teacher in Charles County, MD before transitioning to FCPS at West Potomac High School in 2006. In 2012, she then transitioned to McLean High School where she was also the Advanced Academics Programs Coordinator. As an Assistant Principal, Cynthia supervised Social Studies, English, ESOL and Library along with the Equity Team. Cynthia is a student-centered leader who believes that the path to success is wide and is passionate about helping students and supporting teachers as they help students navigate their own path. She has a focus on relationship-building, clear communication, collaboration, dependability, commitment to learning, and teacher support. In addition to her husband, Cynthia has a rising 9th grade son, a rising 7th grade daughter, and two rescue dogs (hound mixes). She loves sports (particularly baseball), coffee, and karaoke, and she is excited to join the Chantilly community.
