News and Announcements July Edition

Majors achieve and thrive together with purpose and pride!

Greetings Major Families,

Warm greetings to you all!  We hope you are thoroughly enjoying your summer.  The dedicated MVHS team is diligently working to ensure a smooth transition for our Majors as they return to school.  To keep you well-informed and prepared, we have outlined important dates below.  Kindly mark your calendars accordingly.

We were excited to welcome so many rising Freshmen and their families this past week for #HelloMV.  They had an opportunity to meet staff, tour the building, participate in a scavenger hunt and share suggestions for the Class of 2027 T-Shirt.  We look forward to seeing them again for Freshman Orientation on August 17, 2023.

As was shared previously, we have expanded our administrative team and welcomed Ms. Jacquie Blair.  In order to streamline communication, we have provided a breakdown of the administrators' responsibilities.  Please feel free to direct any inquiries to the appropriate staff member.

Wishing you all good health and happiness. We eagerly anticipate seeing you soon!

With MAJOR Love and Pride,

Principal Rogers

Class of 2024

Immunization Clinic for Middle and High School Students in Mount Vernon Pyramid

Dear Parent/Guardians and Caregivers,

To keep all students, families, and your school community safe and healthy, the Code of Virginia  requires that students entering seventh and 12th grade receive specific immunizations before school starts on Monday, August 21. It is critical that your student receives these immunizations. Information about the immunization requirements can be found at https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/immunization/requirements/

In collaboration with Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD), Mount Vernon High School will host a School Site Immunization Clinic. This clinic will offer required immunizations, at no cost to families. School Immunization Clinics will be by appointment only. If your student is missing immunizations, you will be contacted by FCHD staff directly to schedule an immunization appointment. Appointments will be made available to MS and HS students in the Mount Vernon Pyramid.

Clinic Details

Location:  Mount Vernon High School

Clinic Location:  Fieldhouse

Date: August 16, 2023

Time: 2:00pm-7:00pm

The following immunizations will be offered at the School Immunization Clinic for sixth – 12th grade students.

  • Meningococcal Conjugate (MenACWY) Vaccine: The first dose should be administered before starting seventh grade. The final dose should be administered before starting 12th grade.  For related information, see:  Vaccine (Shot) for Meningococcal Disease
  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine:  A complete series of two doses of HPV vaccine is required for students entering seventh grade. The first dose shall be administered before the child starts seventh  grade.  For related information, see:  HPV Vaccine is Cancer Prevention.
    • The HPV vaccine is a State of Virginia mandated vaccine for schools. However, parents/guardians have the right to opt-out their child from receiving this particular vaccine. It will not delay their start of school and no additional documentation is required.
  • Tetanus, Diphtheria, & Pertussis (Tdap) Vaccine: All children should receive one dose of Tdap vaccine prior to entering seventh grade. For more information, see: Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Whooping Cough Vaccination: What Everyone Should Know

Parental/Guardian consent is required for your student to receive immunizations. Students must have a parent/guardian signed consent and be accompanied by an adult (18 years or older with a valid ID) to receive their immunizations at the school clinic. FCHD will support you with the consent process. You may contact FCHD at health@fairfaxcounty.gov or at 703-324-2008 for questions.  If your student has already received these required immunizations, please bring documentation of these immunizations to the front office staff as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

JoVon Rogers
