1.  A Note from Dr. Goodloe

Dear Charger Community,

It has been a great week at Chantilly. We celebrated the class of 2023 on June and conferred high school diplomas to 687 Chargers. During graduation, I shared the following remarks with our graduates, faculty and families and wanted to share them with all of you as I believe our connectedness can help us to change the world:

As Principal, It brings me JOY to celebrate and recognize people for their hard work and accomplishments. Having just recently joined the staff at Chantilly in March of this school year, I am in awe of the strong connectedness within this special community. As I have had many wonderful opportunities to connect with students, staff, and families in individual conversations and at school and community events, I am struck that almost without exception, our Chargers say, I love this place. I know people care about me, and I am supported. We are ALL connected.

Truly, connection is the key to changing the world:  As you think about moving on from Chantilly HS, into the world, be diligent about connectedness.  Start by changing the lives of those around you.  A smile to a stranger, a compliment to a friend, a hug for a family member can be the spark of that connection - make all the difference in their day and perhaps their world.  Maintain those connections and find those that uplift you, challenge you, and engage you. Form deep connections that last, not superficial ones that hardly extend past pleasantries or brief encounters, and let the strength of the connections carry your legacy like a ripple from the center of our Chantilly community to the rest of the world.

And so Chargers as we celebrate you today, know that WE - YOU will always be connected.  Use these connections as strengths, to change the world - yours and for others. I can’t wait to see what you can do! Thank you and Congratulations class of 2023!

I look forward to continuing to forge connections with each of you in our Chantilly community.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with observations, suggestions, questions and celebrations. You connect with me through e-mail (atgoodloe@fcps.edu), call 703-222-8100, or through the form located here. Please remember that if you do not include your information on the form, I will not be able to follow-up.

Sincerely,

Amy T. Goodloe, Ed.D.

Sonny

Mr. Harrison "Sonny" Romine

New Assistant Principal for Student Support

2. Congratulations Mr. Romine!

Please welcome Mr. Harrison (Sonny) Romine as a new member of the Administrative Team at Chantilly HS. Currently serving as Interim Assistant Principal for Subschool 3 (Matj-Raj) and overseeing the Science and Special Education Departments, Mr. Romine has been appointed to serve in a new administrative capacity as Assistant Principal supervising Student Supports beginning in July 2023.

Mr. Romine is a graduate of Chantilly High School class of 2013. He was a student-athlete and played football and studied Psychology at Bridgewater College. After graduating college in 2017, he returned to Chantilly serving in the special education office as an Instructional Assistant. He quickly transitioned to teaching special education science while completing a master’s degree in Special Education from George Mason University. Sonny served for four years as a teacher and shared that he thoroughly enjoyed his time in the classroom and supporting students to reach their full potential. As he sought to make larger impact on student achievement, he accepted the role of academic intervention coordinator at Chantilly HS to help bridge the learning gaps related to the pandemic. This role then led him to pursue a degree in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies  through Virginia Tech. At the start of the 22-23 school year, Mr. Romine was named Dean of Students at Chantilly, a role that has allowed him to reach a larger population of students who need support. In March, he was appointed Interim Assistant Principal of Sub School 3. Mr. Romine shared, "It has been nothing but an absolute joy working with the Chantilly students and staff as well as being able to give back to a community that gave so much to me!"

In his free time, Sonny enjoys spending time with his wife, Kacey, and 10-month-old son, Otto. He also enjoys watching and playing sports, listening to music (any kind), watching TV/movies, reading, playing video games, and keeping up with pop culture in the limited free time he has (thanks to Otto), spending time with any of his 6 pets ranging from dogs to birds and many in between! Mr. Romine is looking forward to continuing his career here at Chantilly HS and working with all the wonderful staff as well as getting to know any newcomers.

Congratulations Mr. Romine!

4. PSAT/NMSQT and SAT Updates

Digital PSAT Replaces Paper in 2023-24

This October, the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) will be administered in Fairfax County in a digital format. Some testing accommodations are administered differently for digital tests than for paper/pencil tests. See information about accommodations for students with disabilities.

PSAT/NMSQT and SAT School Day

The district will offer access to the PSAT/NMSQT and SAT School Day for rising 10th through 12th grade students at no cost to families. Exams will be held at each high school on October 11.

Accommodations for Students with Disabilities and English Learners

Because these exams are operated by the College Board, students do not automatically receive testing accommodations or supports. If you have a student with disabilities entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade; or have an English Learner (EL) student entering 12th grade, please review the accommodations request process and/or EL support request process and return forms to the high school by August 8.

Find out more about SAT Assessments and PSAT Assessments.
