June 2, 2023

It has been a fabulous week here at Fairfax as we have continued to celebrate student greatness. We bid our Seniors farewell after completing their final exams. There were cheers, tears, and many heartfelt yearbook messages written this week. One thing we know for sure is that they are ready to "ROAR" and have a lasting impact on our community.  We cannot wait for "ALL THINGS GRADUATE" next week. We will miss the Class of 2023.

Our AVID site team participated in their site-based certification work, and we couldn't be more excited to continue growing and developing this excellent program . We hosted our transition ceremony for special education services and were excited to celebrate our graduate's success and next steps after high school. Congratulations to Assistant Principal, Kevin Greata, K.I.H.D Exceptional Education Award Winner for his tireless advocacy around special education services.

Hola, Bonjour, Salve, Hallo - World Language Award Winners! We were excited to honor our World Language students and award recipients. We are proud of their commitment to language learning and their excellence in the classroom and beyond.

The Senior Awards were held today. This culminating "Portrait of a Graduate" celebration exemplified an amazing group of scholars who earned departmental achievements, scholarships, and military recognitions.  As remarks were read about each student you heard those impactful qualities we know will lead to excellence in their next chapters - Communicators, Collaborators, Goal-Driven, Fearless, Resilient, Creative, Critical Thinking, Advocates, and Global Citizens.

Every Student, Every Strength, Every Day here at Fairfax High.

Yours in partnership,

Senior Awards Ceremony

Senior Awards

Our Senior Awards Ceremony was held this morning in the Library. Many different awards were distributed, including the John Thomasson Scholarship award, above. It was a lovely ceremony, and a great opportunity to meet and greet our families. Congrats to all our students on their achievements!

Forensics Nationals

FHS Forensics Team

The FHS Forensics team went to Nationals last weekend in "Looaville" KY and was very successful! While no one medaled, all of our students finished firmly in the middle, which is a victory in and of itself, and had a blast along the way. It was a great experience for everyone involved. Pictured above, L-R, are seniors Samiya Mohamed, Zhi Wen Xie, and sophomore Shyla Menon, enjoying some down time in the big city.

🥗 Don’t Forget to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance!

It’s a busy time of year, and we know there are many priorities on your plate. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important for families to remember to check their students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Families who earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals (FRM). However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2023-24 school year will be available near the end of August.

Families who have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals are asked to fill out the FRM application for the 2022-23 school year

If you are interested in helping to relieve lunch debt for families who are currently going through the FRM application process, you may donate to Educate Fairfax.

💪 Let's Finish the School Year Strong!

Student attendance at school is important all year long—up to the last day of school. Attendance has an effect on student performance and on school accreditation. See how to:

  • Check your child’s attendance record.
  • Help your student stay engaged at school.
  • Report future absences.
  • Understand the FCPS school calendar.

RISING Senior Portraits

Rising Seniors,

Our first dates for senior portraits are approaching in just one month: during the last week of school, after underclass exams (June 13-16). These portraits will be the ones that will go into the 2024 yearbook and can also be purchased as a lasting keepsake for you and your family. Keep in mind that senior portraits are scheduled very early in the year: the majority of the dates are in June and August (1-4), as the portraits need time to process before they can be added to the yearbook. Schedule early to ensure your photo appears in the book. Please note: there is no sitting fee if you are only interested in having your portrait in the yearbook and not buying prints: your appointment will be free.

Formal attire is required for the official yearbook photo. The photography studio will provide a wrap (dress drape) or tuxedo (suit drape) for you to choose from. When preparing for your sitting, wear a tank top or light t-shirt that can hide under these options while preserving your modesty. If neither dress nor tux feels appropriate for you, we ask that you wear a formal all-black button-down shirt, blouse, or sweater, suitable for the yearbook. If you do not have proper attire, you will be asked to choose from provided options or to reschedule your sitting. If you would like to purchase photos where you wear a variety of outfits, you must pay for your sitting, the pricing of which depends on how many outfit changes you plan to have.

The photography studio, Legacy Studios, will be emailing scheduling information. If you have any questions about package options or scheduling, reach out to Legacy directly, as the school cannot assist with this. You can also click the following link and schedule now:
