Hello Scottie Families!

We had a great day and a great week, capped off with our SCA Spirit Day -- Multiples Day, and our parent coffee this morning!  Thank you to our mental health team members, Lisa Jeffries, Laura Kaniewski, and Amy Marshall for sharing ways parents can support their children during the summer months.

Have a great 3-day weekend with your family!

Memorial Day Holiday

Memorial Day Holiday - No School

All schools and offices will be closed on Monday, May 29, for the Memorial Day holiday. Classes will resume on Tuesday, May 30.

Sixth Grade Promotion Ceremony

Our 6th grade promotion ceremony is scheduled for June 15, from 9-10 AM, in the BBES cafeteria.  We are excited to celebrate our 6th graders’ promotion to middle school!  Due to limited seating in the cafeteria, we are recommending up to two guests for each family.  Should we reach maximum capacity in the cafeteria, we will live stream the ceremony to the gymnasium for overflow viewing.  This is a special day for our 6th grade students and families, and we look forward to recognizing them on Thursday, June 15 from 9-10 AM!

Yearbook Updates

Yearbooks will be distributed to sixth grade students on June 14 and the rest of the school on June 15.  If families did not pre-order a BBES Yearbook, we will have a limited number of copies for sale in our front lobby the week of June 5-June 9.  Yearbooks can be purchased for $25 (one per student).  Students can bring in exact cash or a check made out to "Bonnie Brae Elementary", with "Yearbook" written in the For section.  We will deliver purchased yearbooks to classroom teachers to distribute.

Mental Health Awareness Month

“May Day” is an emergency procedure word used internationally as a distress signal in voice-procedure radio communications. The new 9-8-8 number is a suicide and crisis lifeline, similar to 9-1-1 in a medical/safety emergency. One in six youth, aged 6-17, experience a mental health condition each year.  Please click here for more information on Mental Health Awareness Month.

Renovation Update

The timeline for the start of renovation remains sometime in the fall of 2023.  In order to have classroom trailers ready for the start of the 2023-2024 school year, FCPS Design and Construction has shared with us that they need to place the additional trailers (18 additional classrooms) on our blacktop area immediately following the last day of school this year.  To make room for the timely installation of the trailers, the blacktop area playground (outside Door 5) will begin to be removed by Design and Construction at the end of next week (June 1 or June 2).  For student and staff safety, a fence will be placed around the playground during its removal.  Our blacktop will remain available for use until the trailers are installed, and our side playground (outside Door 3) will remain in use until renovation begins.  Please see the FCPS Bonnie Brae renovation website for more information on the renovation project.

Bonnie Brae Bookmobile

This summer, Bonnie Brae Elementary School (BBES) will introduce the Bonnie Brae Bookmobile to provide books to students during Summer 2023.  The Bonnie Brae Bookmobile will run on July 6, 2023 from 10 a.m.-12p.m. and July 25, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. and will be stopping at four locations in the community, with the last stop being the BBES parking lot, to distribute books and popsicles to our students! Community stops will be announced before the end of the school year.

We need your support!  Please consider making a donation of any new or gently used books to support this summer reading initiative!  New and/or gently used books will be collected through June 16, 2023 in boxes outside the library by the music room.  Questions or suggestions?  Please contact Karen Radcliffe at keradcliffe@fcps.edu.
